nxclient (from nomachine) and gnome3

2015-12-30 Thread Joachim Backes

Hi all,

I'm running f23 with gnome3 desktop env. Having a weird problem if
connecting with nxclient-3.5.0-7 to some remote linux server (for
example scientific linux) running nxserver-3.5.0 or freenx-0.7.3-9.4.el6:

My problem: if configuring the nxclient when accessing the remote
machine (remote: gnome, but not gnome3, and, this is important, full
screen), then the upper part of the remote display (menu bar:
unusable,...) is not usable (remains insensitive) . It seems the local
gnome 3 bar (at the screen's top) inhibits the use of this remote area
of the screen).

I think it's a gnome3 problem, because if running lxde as local desktop,
then the described problem disappears.

So my question: anybody has similar problem and has a solution?

Kind regards

Joachim Backes

If it was me, I'd start with playing with the system settings in my
windowing system. I'm a KDE guy. so I go to System Settings -> Input
Devices -> Mouse and make sure that everything is set right. I'm sure
GNOME has the same sort of thing.

If you want to go deeper, then you can use

lsusb -- make sure the mouse is there (though it is if only the right
mouse button isn't working, but what the hell)

If you want to capture usb packets themselves, then wireshark is the way
to go. See: https://wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/USB

But I gotta say, if it's just one button that's not working and the system
settings thing doesn't fix it, I'd be thinking hardware issues, and I'd
just spend the five bucks for a mouse that works.

On F22, my LG tablet connects using the mtp protocol.
However, I had to add it to the udev rules configuration file.

I copied /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules to
/etc/udev/rules.d and edited the copy. I found
rules for tablets similar to my own and duplicated
them but with an appropriate name and with the vendor
and product id's I got from lsusb.

Thanks Kari, I had to use Bumblebee since my laptop uses Optimus technology
as Tod pointed out. I disabled the 'nomodeset' from the kernel command line
and just before the GDM loads the OS and it will lock up and you can hear
the fan blowing as if all the resources are being consumed. The only way
around this is to power down the box, if I don't touch the kernel command
line and let it boot, it will get to the GDM; however, each time I try to
login it will come right back to the login screen, but I can go to another
virtual console.

It is fair to say that I can close this thread and open a new one for
Bumblebee because I am able to boot Fedora 23 on the ASUS ROG laptop.

gnome won't start

2015-12-30 Thread Jon LaBadie
On my F22 system I typically use mate as my desktop environment.
Occasionally I log out and try to login using gnome. It quickly
comes up with a screen saying "Opps, something has gone wrong".

If I try "gnome classic" instead, it takes a little longer and
I get a flash of an new desktop before the "Opps" screen.

After the failed login, I went debugging by logging into a
tty terminal.

Looking at ~/.xsessionerrors there are 4 lines of
"stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device"
and nothing else.

I don't notice any errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log*.

If I try it logging in as a new user with gnome it starts
up fine.

If I remove ~/.gnome* and ~/.gconf* the problem still occurs.

Any hints where to look?

I detest the new Gnome, but I'd suggest also moving/deleting "~/.config"
(or at least "~/.config/gnome*") and trying again.

As does the Brother 7065DN that we have here.

Firefox and gmail troubles

2015-12-30 Thread Chris Murphy
Fedora 23, Firefox 43.0, and 43.0.3.

In the last couple of weeks I started to get this message often while in Gmail:

Oops… the system encountered a problem (#007) - Retrying in 1s…

Often this takes a lot more than 1s to recover. It always happens when
sending emails, and the first attempt for an email always fails,
clicking send again always succeeds.

This happens in safe mode, and with a new test user login account (a
whole new login environment), and it happens with multiple gmail
accounts. If I reboot to OS X, and use Firefox 43, it never happens.
So the network and hardware are identical, the only factor seems to be
something unique to Fedora. There are no messages logged in the
journal at this time.

I've tried disabling firewalld, connecting to another network via
openvpn+private tunnel, and disabling ipv6. No change.

Any suggestions? In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can reproduce
in vmm/kvm booting Fedora 23 live. This is really super annoying.

Well, every multi-function HP machine we bought (a sample of two)
works well scanning with sane. We currently have an HP Envy 4504,
bought for a low price, scans well, though not fast.

Now negatives, not so sure; does that require software to process the
scan? I do not have experience with that.

scan negative & slides

Most Fujitsu scanners are directly supported in SANE. I have it on good
authority that Fujitsu actively supports the SANE project, and often
supplies new hardware in advance, so that support can be developed in
advance of general availability.

Fujitsu scanners are a bit pricier that the competition, though. The
cheapest full-sized scanner I see on Amazon is the iX500 at four hundred
bucks, and, yup, it's listed on http://www.sane-project.org/sane-
backends.html with "Good" support.

Running a private mirror with Fedora's mirrormanager

2015-12-30 Thread spikefedora
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to set up a private mirror with Fedora's mirrormanager. It seem I
could successfully check in with the report_mirror script as mirromanager's web
interface says

Last Checked In: 2015-12-31 03:42:47.866562

for the site I'm interested in. I've got 87.159.31.184/32 and
FedoraMirror.mooo.com (which resolves to that exact address) listed in
site-local netblocks and the categories carried show a bunch of Fedora 23 stuff
(complete list here: https://paste.fedoraproject.org/306101/ if anyone is
interested).

What I'd expect is
https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released-f23&arch=x86_64
to list my mirror somewhere but unfortunately I only get the unsual public
suspects.
What am I missing? Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Regars, Chris

Re: Firefox and gmail troubles

2015-12-30 Thread Chris Murphy
It doesn't happen in the VM, which has Firefox 41. So I might try
reverting to that version next...

Another symptom is that things hang a lot. Even dnf will hang
midstream downloading either a package or metadata. No error, no fail,
no recovery, just indefinite stall. If I cancel it and just issue the
same command, it always completes. And yet non-google sites load find
in Firefox. So I can't tell if the dnf stall is related to the
Firefox+google services stall.

It shouldn't for just reversal of intensity, however you *may* need a
driver to turn on any backlights for scanning transparencies.

Yikes.

I went looking to see if A3 scanner were affordable. You need to be
sitting down for their pricetag.

Evolution keeps on telling me that it's refreshing, but I still want to
go and get a drink.
