GPT is a partition scheme. BIOS is a firmware type. So there's no such thing as a BIOS disk. But if I guess that by BIOS you mean sda is an MBR drive, in which case this is not a supportable configuration and you should reinstall Fedora so you get a UEFI based installation, and sda is partitioned using GPT. Many firmware do have a legacy option in the firmware setup, but you'd have to switch legacy on to boot this particular installation you have of Fedora; and switch it back to boot Windows. That's probably why right now only Windows is booting. -- Chris Murphy -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question? While there isn't a way to control the backlight with ordinary monitor connections, brightness and contrast of the generated video signal can be controlled. Of course this gives worse results than supplying a full signal to the monitor, and adjusting the monitor controls. And cannot make a picture more brilliant if you're using a (LCD) monitor that uses a backlight (that's running dim). -- [tim@localhost ~]$ uname -rsvp Linux 3.9.10-100.fc17.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 14 01:31:27 UTC 2013 x86_64 Boilerplate: All mail to my mailbox is automatically deleted, there is no point trying to privately email me, I only get to see the messages posted to the mailing list. I just noticed that on a laptop that I have if I set the brightness to MAX in the system-settings (I'm using KDE) but I use the FN key of the laptop and use the brightness UP/DOWN keys on the laptop I can control the brightness of the screen even though the settings remain at MAX. So, maybe you have a laptop HW Function that you can play with? I am sitting in the Delta lounge until boarding time (just flying down to my parents in VA Beach for a quick visit), and was working on this super dim notebook screen I looked at the hardware maint manual and there IS an ambient sensor integrated with the camera clip. In fact I can see it right next to the camera. I will open up my 'hanger queen' system when I get back and pull the clip from that one to switch into this. Meanwhile, boy, one really tends to forget about function keys beyond turning wifi off and on. Your recommendation to use the brightness control worked like a charm. Thanks. I am good for now. Probably won't be until next week that I can swap out the ambient sensor Will post back then. -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/admin/lists/users@lists.fedoraproject.org Fedora Code of Conduct: http://fedoraproject.org/code-of-conduct Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines Have a question?
