I normally use "xfce dusk" bd some icon selection, none made a

Try changing your icon theme to something else, then back to what you
were using before. I did

Applications->Settings->Appearance->(Icons tab)

and switched from the Fedora icon theme to Crux and closed that app.

Yes, I was going to ask the a=same question,  whatever that is It is
useless to me. Actually, it prevents me from accessing some items I use
frequently in this Fedora 27 computer where it simply provides a list of
accessories.

strange icon in menu

2018-08-02 Thread François Patte
Bonjour,

I just upgraded my system to f28. I use xfce as window manager and in
the main menu>accessories there is a HHHuge icon, an image of two
drawers, which is for the file manager.

Why? And how to remove it?

Thank you.

Correct. After installing the source RPM, you have to run "rpmbuild -bp"
(which means "build-prep", essentially) to have rpmbuild extract the
data from the tarball, apply the appropriate patches and do the initial
prep stages. From then on, you can essentially go to the
~/rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel- directory and press on with xconfig
or menuconfig or whatever you wish to use to configure the kernel to
your liking.

I might recommend your first forays into kernel building/installing be
done on a VM or back up your live system adequately so if you destroy
your functioning system, you can recover in case you get it wrong.

Error on my side. rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec filled up ~/rpmbuild/BUILD.

Building the kernel

2018-08-02 Thread Frank Elsner

Hello,

as announced I started to build the kernel myself.

Following the documentation in
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Building_a_custom_kernel/Source_RPM

I downloaded the kernel SRPM.

But when I do the step "Install kernel-.src.rpm with the following
command:"
by executing
   rpm -Uvh ~/Downloads/kernel-4.17.9-200.fc28.src.rpm

I can't proceed to the next step

Change to the kernel source tree directory:
 cd ~/rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel-$ver.$fedver/linux-$ver.$subver.$fedver.$arch/

because ~/rpmbuild/BUILD is empty but ~/rpmbuild/SOURCES has *.config files and
patches.

Why is ~/rpmbuild/BUILD empty? Documention in error or what is my error?

Cheers,
Frank

The problem is that I'm using stock F28 with default Gnome 3 and, as it can
be seen from my screenshot, there is no "PASTE" option in the menu (what
exposed clicking the 3 horizontal lines icon):
I only have:
- new folder and new tab buttons (+ "bookmark this location" button that is
grayed out)
- zoom in/out buttons
- undo and redo buttons that are grayed out
- Visible Columns...
- "show hidden files" checkbox
- Reload

So your hint and gnome documentation for which I provided the link seem not
accurate, or Fedora 28 has done some customization to the menu of "Files"
application

The problem with this line is "fsid=0". Remove that (not sure what
it is for) and it will work.

I suspect that the reason for "fsid=0" is that, in the early day of
nfsv4 on linux, if you didn't specify it, it would be the highest
level share that would be the pseudo-filesystem's root, not "/".
