I generally reinstall, but having done 4-5 upgrades in the last few days, using install DVD media, and if you are willing to accept that the upgrade will probably not be as clean as an install in terms of filesystem setup or leaving a few configs in an old setting, then the benefit is that it will be faster to upgrade and you will preserve your custom settings *in most cases*. The more revisions between the initial and current revision the higher chance of problems, some functional, and some just things like using old filesystem types or config files. People go either way, depending on which issues they most want to avoid. You can boot off an FC13 install DVD and select the upgrade (1st IIRC) option. Somewhere in the next few screens it will have radio buttons to install or upgrade. Be careful, the default is install (again from memory). You then get the option to select which install to replace (I assume only one), and let it run. Before sexy preupgrade methods that was the method of choice. I did it from FC11 to FC13 recently, other than taking a while it worked flawlessly. > PS The rest of the disk is LVM on both computers. I'm sure there are wonders to preupgrade, but putting stuff on my disk from the network could run into disk space issues and can take a long time if the network isn't fast (yes, there are actual human beings running T1). And it doesn't scale, while a handful of DVDs does. -- Bill Davidsen "We have more to fear from the bungling of the incompetent than from the machinations of the wicked." - from Slashdot -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

Also, you may have several earlier kernels already installed in /boot. If so, trying removing some (leave at least one as a backup of course) and try again. Also, check the archives of this list where space problems with preupgrade have been discussed before. Around the release date of F13 would probably be a good place to start looking. poc -- users mailing list users@lists.fedoraproject.org To unsubscribe or change subscription options: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/users Guidelines: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines

I have found the easiest way to upgrade is get the latest "Fedora-release" and "Fedora-release-notes" from the F13 mirrors and "rpm -Uvh" both rpm's into F12 , then do a "yum clean all" and lastly "yum upgrade" from command line . It will replace all your F12 rpm's with F13 rpm's and then you Reboot your computer into a F13 kernel, and the LAST thing you have to do is " rpm -qa | grep kernel" that will display all the F12 kernels left behind, you do a "yum remove" any kernels left behind. If I use the command line and Copy and Paste those old F12 kernels at "yum remove" it makes it easier. And very lastly you got a Brand Spanking new F13 to boot from.
