Because the context was insufficient. When posting about an issue (or
giving a tip) it's important to put yourself in the position of someone
who isn't immersed in your specific problem.

And now several hundred words have been used to clear up the confusion
when a bit more clarity from the start would have been enough.

Never mind.  I'll go back to my standard practice.

You somehow managed to do it in your bug report to Softmaker.

And, still, this has nothing to do with *Fedora* and *Fedora* supplied packages.

I suppose that means I should go through all the non-Fedora SW I've collected

If you open a wine program and read in a data file
that was a symbolic link, then saved your work
back, it would over write the link with the actual
file and leave the original file alone.

Now it follows the link when saving back as it should
have done all along.

   Brave Browser
   Waterfox Classic
   Metasploit
   VLC and others
   qemu-KVM
   Vivaldi
   Wine (sometimes for trouble shooting)

SoftMaker, LibreOffice (LO), Master PDF Editor do not
have a repos (yet).

I use LO's RPM as I have to support Windows as well

The ONLY non-rpm program I run is PDF Studio.

I am currently listening to Classic FM on VLC

What examples did I give? I only reported the programs

a plea for help. Believe me, if I need help, I am
VERY direct about it

You didn't give *any* examples of what "wine" commands

Hmm, what part of Wine fixed it did you miss?

softmaker commands to use

to "overwrite" created links.

If you really, really want to try it our yourself,
here is a how to reproduce:
https://forum.softmaker.com/viewtopic.php?f=307=20923

You have to install SoftMaker Free first:
https://shop.softmaker.com/repo/rpm/x86_64/RPMS/

And again, I am, not asking for help with this issue.

Although, if you do install SoftMaker Free (or paid)
I would love to hear your evaluation of Soft
Maker Office. It is a lot more like M$ Office for
those that can't learn anything new.

Neither of the packages you cite are Fedora supplied packages.

I also seems as if, since you have a very generic ln example, that these

symbolic links no matter where they exist.

Besides, your ln example without any context gives this as the result

[egreshko@meimei ~]$ ln -s xxx yyy

yyy: broken symbolic link to xxx

I use both SoftMaker Free and LibreOffice do to all the
endless, mind numbing, bugs and awkwardness in/of
LibreOffice. SoftMaker seems to have some bugs too.
And they do not support saving back to ods or opening
encrypted odt. I have not test envelopes in SoftMaker
yet (LO falls on its a-- with envelopes). And I will
go back and forth from SoftMaker and LO when I need
to change page orentation back from Landscape to Portrait.
LO won't fix user reported bugs unless you pay them,
which is the open source model and beyond the capability
of most except the most well funded companies.

M$ Office is "rumored" to run in Wine, but that
will be a cold day ...

Word Pro does run in wine pretty nicely and is
more powerful than LO. Does wonderful envelopes
too and has division tabs. Plus it is intuitive.
