Re: [INFO] Required goal not found: install:help in org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:2.2

2009-05-16 Thread Brian Fox
the :help goals are relatively new, it's likely that 2.2 doesn't have that.
Just go to the maven-install-plugin page to see the help.

RE: [maven 2] assembly: repository from multiple modules

2009-05-16 Thread Martin Gainty

i found this link helpful
http://propellors.net/maven/book/assemblies.html

the maven site defines elements used in source node here
http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-assembly-plugin/assembly.html#class_moduleSources

repositories feature of assemblies would work for a multi-module project.
so we're on the same page what do you considered a module
also does multi-module have some defining characteristic?

here is an early discussion of Maven module from Brett Porter circa 2005
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/MAVEN/Improves+Modules+Definition
where the only definining characteristic is groupId,artifactId and version

Here is Glassfish definition of module
Module Definition
At high level, a module is defined by the following information.

key
description
example

name
Name of the component
com.sun.module

version
Version number of the module
1.2.1-rc4

imports
list of imported component, comma separated
com.sun.bar com.sun.myothermodule

exports
list of classes or packages exported
com.sun.module.spiwhere name is analogous to artifactId
and exports list is analogous to groupId

https://hk2.dev.java.net/modules.html

would wither of these definitions conform to your understanding of module ?
thanks,
Martin

Re: [maven 2] assembly: repository from multiple modules

2009-05-16 Thread David Smiley @MITRE.org

Thanks Brian, this led me on the right path. Still... it'd be nice if the
repositories feature of assemblies would work for a multi-module project.

So I ended up with this in my parent pom:

maven-dependency-plugin

true
true

maven-assembly-plugin
2.2-beta-3

m2-repo
false

src/maven-assembly-repo.xml

and my maven-assembly-repo.xml descriptor looks like this:
http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0";
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";
xsi:schemaLocation="http://maven.apache.org/POM/4.0.0
http://maven.apache.org/xsd/assembly-1.0.0.xsd";>
repository

zip

false

  false

  target/dependency

Thanks everyone for trying to help. BTW... it DID occur to me to
temporarily use an empty local repo and then zip it when I'm done with a
build. That would be pragmatic to get a solution quick but it felt a bit
sloppy and I wanted a better solution.

[INFO] Required goal not found: install:help in org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:2.2

2009-05-16 Thread T W
I'm attempting to try out Lift and the package installs a version of
maven. I couldn't execute the first example though, involving a jetty
plugin, so I googled and found about the install functionality and
attempted installing jetty, which led me here. Google has zero results
for this error, which makes me think it must be something new, or it
must be something basic I should know that isn't documented. Can
someone give me a clue?

As far as I can tell, it's not present. I've attached the
effective-pom.xml for anyone interested to have a look through. Maybe
I'm just going blind! The groupId mindfruit are personal projects.
Also attached is a tidied version of find.

find . -type f | grep -v
'svn\|webapp/images\|class$\|\js$\|html$\|css$\|tomcat/logs' | sort

> Check the pom for "odd" configuration.

Nothing really leaps out at me - seems quite vanilla really.

> Also check profiles.xml in the same dir.

Not present

> Then check the pom's parent for odd configuration, and profiles.xml.

No profiles.xml discovered using either the find or locate commands.

> Then check settings.xml files that may be affecting the build.

The only settings.xml reported by a 'locate' is the default
settings.xml in the maven/conf directory.

> "mvn help:effective-pom" should also prove useful in your investigations.

See attached.

Sadly, I'm the only one responsible for cocking this up ;)

Quite. Why is it only writing class files for a sub-set of the
javax.servlet package hierarchy? Why isn't it unpacking other
dependencies too? Why is this happening on both the Mac I use at home
and the Linux box I use at work? That indicates surely that it's being
caused by a (sub-) versioned file in the project hierarchy.
