I hope that you have downloaded the German language version of Open Office
through the official open office site at www.openoffice.org. That sdite
provides you many language options for the Open Office suite, and many
options for the operating system under which you will run Open Office.

I suggest that you uninstall the German language version of Open Office
which you have downloaded. There really is no way to "switch" it to
English, whether US English, British English, or Canadian English.

After uninstalling the German language version, go to www.openoffice.org
and select the "flavor" of English version which you want to use, as well
as the Operating System you are using, and download ONLY from www.open
office.org.

The Open Office website will take you to Source Forge, from which your
download will be obtained.

Downloading any language version of Open Office from any source other than
Open Office.org is risky and may result in installation of various forms of
undesirable programs being installed on your system.

Most email clients have a mechanism to filter out messages from unwanted
sources. Of course, so many times, people are tempted to "feed the
troll" and reply to the undesirable individual. Then you get the
unwanted messages repeated in the replies. I know it is difficult to
resist, but if no one replies to the troll's messages, the effect they
are seeking is not realized and they just go away.

Maybe unlikely, but it could happen. It happened in Vietnam although
many years ago. Like most far east languages, Vietnamese used to be
written in its own character set, but now it is written in a Latin
alphabet, but uses many diacritical marks since it is a tonal language,
as is Chinese.

I agree, Dennis, but I think that foreign language speakers should also
be directed to the list in his own language (if one exists) because
there are bound to be few speakers of that language on an
English-speaking list such as this. I, for example, do not speak
French, but would not hesitate to help someone in a language I do
speak... if, of course, I know the solution. On a list in the poster's
own language, one is always more likely to find an answer to their problem.

Of course, it should not be done in such a rude manner as was witnessed
in this case.

Good afternoon,

I have the most current version of openoffice.org 4.1 and can not open an

Hello Rita,

Clicking on an icon in the task bar ought to the associated
application - so if you click on the OpenOffice icon in your
task bar, OpenOffice should start and present you with a few
choices (e.g., start a new document, open a recent file).

Not sure why you might want to open a New Folder? If what you
mean is "creating a new folder" for OpenOffice files, then this
is an operating system task. On a Mac, you would do this in a
Finder window. I'm not familiar with Windows/Linux, so I'm sorry
I can't help you there.

I hope this helps,

Like it or not, Urmas is fundamentally right: the modern lingua franca is
English. If there is a secondary language, it is probably Spanish,
since it is the language of most of South America. Or maybe Russian, which mt
never even considered. Or maybe Arabic, altho it suffers
from a difficult written form. I would doubt that Chinese will ever become a
world-wide language unless and until it converts to a Latin alphabet.
