Printing Problem

2020-12-05 Thread Stella Peppercorn
I have a problem printing in Black ink from OpenOffice 4.1.8
The printer is an XP-245. It will not print black from OpenOffice . All I get
is a shadow with lines across. But if I PrintScreen into Paint is will print
from there correctly. So the black cartridge is working.
I have reloaded Open Office, and the Printer Driver. I have also tried USB
connection and WiFi. Nothing cures this.
If I change the font colour to Dark Yellow, say, it will print but this is a
combination of the colour cartridges.
What on earth is the problem and how can I solve it please?

I am not familiar with that printer but many have 2 black tanks - one for B&W
and one for black tones when printing color.

The problem may not be with Open Office.  Here is a link to a page to removing
black ink printing problems I found using an internet search.

I don't think that's obvious, in fact.

Good scheme.

I think this is all consistent with your black ink cartridge being
empty or blocked or otherwise faulty. When you print black text from
OpenOffice, only the black cartridge and its ink will be used. But
when you use Print Screen to copy the appearance of the OpenOffice
editing screen into Paint, everything becomes part of a picture, and
the text you thought was black is now something very much
approximating black, but as part of colour picture. So the effect
when you print from Paint will be that the colour ink cartridges will
be used, possibly also with the black cartridge to increase contrast.
In other words, what Paint is doing to create the almost black it
wants is to combine the colour cartridges, just as does your dark yellow.

There are obvious ways to test this. Start (Windows) Notepad and
write a few words. Print that: I predict that you will find that this
fails too - confirming that it is not OpenOffice that is at fault but
very probably your black cartridge. Alternatively, go to Start |
Settings | Devices | Printer & Scanners. Click on your printer and
click Manage. Click "Print a test page". Again, if the black text
that should be part of this fails to print properly and clearly, your
black cartridge is empty, blocked, or otherwise faulty.

I imagine that the software that was supplied with your printer
incudes the facility to display the current ink levels. If the black
cartridge is empty, you have your solution; if it still contains ink,
it may be blocked or not fitted properly. It seems that the
cartridges are also transparent, so that you can take out your black
cartridge and simply see if there is remaining ink.

There is at least one other, far more complicated possibility,
involving your OpenOffice text not being black (perhaps white) but
appearing legible in the editing screen because of high contrast or
similar settings in Windows. But you'd probably know if you had arranged that.

I trust this helps.

I need help with an Open Office Writer task.

2020-12-05 Thread Linda Hull
I have Open Office 4.1.6 on Windows 10.

I opened an archive with 7Zip, and in it, I have several files. Each file
is a book of an Aramaic translation to English, of the Bible, having
several chapters. Each chapter has verses numbered 1. 2. 3. etc.

In order to use the files in an IRC Eggdrop bot, we need them to be 1:1.
1:2. 1:3. and so on, for each chapter, so 12:1. 12:2. 12:3. etc etc.

There are twenty-seven books in the New Testament of a standard Christian
King James Bible, and that is 260 chapters, about 7,958 verses (varies by
translation).

This is a formidable task. Is there a way to use OpenOffice to
automatically insert the correct Chapter numberings?

An example, showing a Chapter break:

28. Him whom we preach; and we teach and we educate every person in all
wisdom, to confirm every person as perfected in Yeshua The Messiah;
29. For in this I also labor and fight with the help of the power that is
given to me.

Colossians Chapter 2

1. But I want you to know what struggles I have for you and for those in
Laidiqia and for those others who have not seen my face in the flesh,

*

The material is not really .txt it is a series of Word documents.

I hope you can help?

Thanks a lot!

Linda

Mysterious bar of arrows

2020-12-05 Thread Edward Eckhard
TO ALL THE USERS WHO HAVE BEEN SO HELPFUL IN THE PAST :

Trying to create another of my many simple narrative files with some
difficulty. I select "Text Document" from the OpenOffice TM4 page
which normally brings me to a blank page where I select my font size,
print style, left justified paragraphs, etc. This time it presented with a
three inch bar of multicolored arrows going left to right across the screen.

To the left of the bar is a small box called "New Themes" and offers
several options options such as arrows, backgrounds, bullets, finance, etc.
Arrow is hilighted in blue.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS BAR ??

Any suggestions you can offer ? Thank you.
