RE: Subscription

2016-01-06 Thread Coll-Barth, Michael

You do know that you can download and install this for free. Kill that
subscription thing and get it directly from; https://www.openoffice.org/. As
for the charges you are incurring, I have no idea who is charging you. It
isn't 'official'.

I have open office on my laptop because my stepfather downloaded it on my
laptop around August 2015. I renewed it one time a couple months ago for
$10 and did not do it again. For some reason I have been charged $10.69 twice
this month and I am not sure why. I would appreciate your help on this matter
thank you.

I've been doing the newsgroups, forums and email in its various formats for
close to 30 years. The whole top/bottom posting issue is just plain BS.
Particularly when the thread is long with folks responding to different parts
of the post at different times. What's important is to write clearly and
concisely. Don't make me work to understand what you are saying. As for
personal preference, I prefer midposting.

Not for me.

>> Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
> A: Top-posting.

The most annoying is flame wars. Especially over trivial things like, how to
post.

>> Q: What is the most annoying thing in e-mail?

How does one tell the difference? And if you are a virtual user, how can we
trust your answer?

You download the software and install it on 160 machines. It is open source
and free. Just be sure to go to the right site; https://www.openoffice.org/

What OS is this on? What backup protocol do you have in place? Where do you
save your docs? I just hope you don't use that 'c:\users' area.

I'll give it a try.

Mike,

Try this...

To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org

I usually put unsubscribe in the subject line out of habit.

Apache is open source as well. So, I don't buy that argument. Oracle bought
Sun and acquired OpenOffice.

To an outsider, namely me and one that is not vested in either side, it appears
that someone didn't like the notion that Oracle was in control of OO and
decided to fork it.

For giggles sake, let's say that it was not a good thing to have OO in the
hands of Oracle. Once OO was out of Oracle's control and in the hands of
Apache, LO should have simply disappeared with the LO developers flocking back
to OO bringing with them the new ideas they built into LO. Oh, and of course,
the squandered resources could be put to better use; building a solid, open
source Office Suite.

It is truly a shame that there had to be this fork. The 'eyes' have been
effectively cut in half between the two products. And for what, minor
differences? Is one product really so much better than the other? Yeah, I see
the differences, but they are less than between versions of MS Office.
