Re: MAC OS - Still cannot eliminate OO icon from Mac desktop when program running
Hi Dave,Thank you for your response. Here is what I did, after reading your notes: Quit Open Office by selecting"Quit" in OO menu bar.Ejected OO disk icon that remained on desktop.Opened the Application Folder located in the Dock on desktop.Selected and clicked on OO icon in application folder.OO disk icon again appeared on desktop.Clicked on OO disk icon to start program.OO start bar appeared and loaded on desktop.OO files opened, as usual. Everything above is what I go through each time I quit OO. The disk icon never goes away while OO is open.If I try to eject the OO disk on the desktop, a message says because OO files are opened, I have to Force Eject. This would terminate the OO program, until I relaunch it. On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, 10:46:17 AM PDT, Dave Fisher wrote: Quit OpenOffice. Open the Application Folder. MAC OS - Still cannot eliminate OO icon from Mac desktop when program running
Greetings, Still trying to get the OO icon off of desktop when OO is running. Did not have an icon on desktop when I used Word. Again, followed every detail of installing on Mac per instructions of : (Q03/AQ03)Tutorial] Mac FAQ Apache OO Community Forum by MrProgrammer 6/27/17) •Waited for Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.7_MacOS_x86-64_install_en-US.dmg to finish loading. •OO icon appeared on desktop. •Dragged OO icon on desktop into Applications folder as per instructions: "Drag the OpenOffice.app icon on that screen into the Applications folder icon on that screen. Macs don't need an "install" program for this application." (Please see screen shots of OO in Finder's Application Folder and in desktop Applications Folder). •Clicked on OO icon to start OO. Program started running and could use. BUT ... •Followed additional instructions: " Use File → Eject "OpenOffice" (the dmg file). Either delete the file with the dmg extension or put it in a safe place in the rare case that you want to reinstall it later without re-downloading. Sure about this? If I deleted this .dmg file, then OO operating system no longer available. •End result: OO gray icon remain on desktop, when program running. (Even though I initially dragged it into Applications Folder). Thanks for any clarification from the Macintosh tech side. I can only hope that the posted instructions are correct and I somehow keep misunderstanding some salient point. Good health to all. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
Ttext line in yellow rectangle appears when scrolling
Using: OO 4.1.6 on MacBookPro running OS 10.14.6 Whenever I scroll through an OO document, using either mouse or laptop's touchpad, a single line of black text inside a yellow rectangle follows my scrolling. This line of text always gives the correct page number I am on, but the phrase or sentence after the page number remains from pages earlier. The yellow rectangle always appears on the right side of the page, when I scroll. This occurs on any existing text document I open. But, if I open a new text document, it does not happen. How do I turn this feature off? Thanks in advance for your solution. Cannot eliminate O.O. hard drive icon from Mac desktop
Two ongoing challenges: 1. No matter what I try, I cannot eliminate the open office hard drive icon (picture 1) from my MacBook Pro desktop. • If I try to drag the O.O. icon to my Applications folder, that just creates an O.O. Alias in the Apps folder. (picture 2) • The O.O. hard drive icon remains on my desktop. 2. I have to reload O.O. each time I restart the Mac. • If I restart or shut down the MacBook, my O.O. files turn into locked Word files (unless I pay Microsoft more money to update Word) • After restarting the Mac, I have to click on the O.O. icon in the Apps folder (now a white color - picture 3) to let O.O. load. • The O.O. icon turns its regular blue color in the Apps folder after it finishes loading O.O. At that point, all my O.O. files work again. I appreciate any solution. Thanks. Trying to delete OO icon from Mac desktop, since it's already installed in Applications folder
Thanks, Dave Fisher, for your advice - OO desktop disk drive icon finally disappeared from Mac desktop after following your instructions. The OO gray hard rive icon reappeared on Mac desktop when I restarted (control key and left clicked on OO blue logo icon in Applications folder). Is it normal for the OO to remain on desktop, when I'm using program, until I eject it (right click on OO gray hard drive icon> left click Eject)? Dan On Sunday, May 19, 2019, 7:07:34 PM PDT, Dave Fisher wrote: Hi Dan - It is likely you started OpenOffice from the Disk Image. Quit OpenOffice and then Eject. You should then be able to restart from the Applications folder. The first time you will need to press the control key and click in order to start. Trying to delete OO icon from Mac desktop, since it's already installed in Applications folder
Greetings, Running OO 4.1.6 on Mac OS (Mojave 10.14.4) - Chrome browser OO icon refuses to be ejected from my desktop - OO software already is installed in my MacBook Pro Applications folder, along with an alias (see attachment). When I right click on the OO desktop icon, and select “Eject OpenOffice” from the pop-up list, notice appears, "'OpenOffice' wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may be using it." (see attachment). Thanks in advance for your expertise.. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
How do I remove Open Office icon from desktop when program app already installed?
My previous query:My challenge is figuring out how to remove the OpenOffice icon from the Mac desktop, without the program quitting.Already have O.O. software installed in my MacBook Pro Applications folder, along with an alias. If I right click on the O.O. desktop icon, and select “Eject OpenOffice” from the pop-up list, notice appears, “The disk 'OpenOffice' wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may be using it.” Mark Wolf responded to above: "Have you tried a Force Quit to see if Open Office is started?" 1. Did a "Force Eject" of the Open Office desktop icon. (screenshot)2 Tried reopening Open Office files - "File Can't Be Found" notice popped up for each one I tried to open.3. Had to relaunch Open Office from Applications folder.4. A "simultaneous access" warning popped up. (See attached screen shot)5. Clicked Continue and allowed O.O. to reconstruct listed files. This seems to be a lot of trouble to reboot Open Office and access my files when I shut down and reopen the MacBook Pro. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: users-unsubscr...@openoffice.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: users-h...@openoffice.apache.org
