Re: Open Office Crashes

2023-04-19 Thread Shari Lynn Smith

Hi Pam,

Have you followed these steps:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=12426#p58403

Are you running the lasted version 4.1.14?
https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

I know you said you removed it, but make sure you're also installing the
latest version.

I too get frustrated sometimes, but then I remind myself it's free and
does what I want & need. Also keep in mind that anyone who is helping
you is doing so as a volunteer. None of us are employees of OpenOffice.

If the above doesn't help, try to remember exactly what you were doing
when it crashed.

Are you in Cal, Writer, and what was the last action you took. It could
be a bug.

Can you let us know what you are trying to do exactly? Does you printer
allow you to print directly on to the envelope? Have you print directly
to an envelope with another program?

If you printer will print to an envelope directly, you should just need
to change the paper size in OpenOffice. Some printers are able to print
on envelopes some are not.

If you need to make edits that both computers need to have access to,
I'd suggest getting setup with a cloud drive. Google, Microsoft, Dropbox
all have free accounts that give you limited space. Once the documents
have been uploaded to the cloud drive you would then have access from

Is there a group? The page is great for announcements, however it's much
easier to help people via a group. You have to come at it from the backend,

Re: Pictures rotating in Writer then disappearing after pasting from Draw

2018-07-05 Thread Shari Lynn Smith
Hi Kristine, I would suggest you use an image editor and do the edit in
that then save it before inserting it into writer. Some image editors
"auto rotate" and image but it doesn't actually replace the image with
the image rotated. My favorite image editor is Irfanview I've been using
it for years and it's free, it's not fancy, but it does what most people
need and it's quick to use. You can visit the website: irfanview.com or
it's available in the Windows app store.

Re: RUDE

Dear Dennis, I'm not sure where you received your copy of OpenOffice,
it's a free OpenSource program, so there isn't really a company you're
dealing with. You received responses from people just like you. Your
initial email was kinda rude itself, so you received kinda rude responses.

OpenSource isn't for everyone, it takes a bit of individual
responsibility in learning, using, and a simple bit of respect when
asking for help.

It seems you may be more lucky with buying a product that includes paid
support. I personally haven't gotten great support for paid programs
either, however I still try and be as respectful of those I'm contacting
paid or free. You might want to try engaging in a conversation from that
perspective.

With OpenSource you too should understand ANYONE can send ANYTHING they
want to you, so be ready for the delete button, and keep an eye out for
the emails that are the gold that do indeed help you.

Sincerely,

Shari

 and Replace works fine.

 In the professional printing industry they use _en_ and _em_ spaces see
 below:

  * An em space is the same width as the point size of the font you use.
For example, if you use a 10-point font, an em space is 10 points wide.
  * An en space is half the width of an em space.
  * A numeric space is the same width as the font's zero (0) character.
All digits are typically the same width. This space is useful for
aligning numbers in a column without using tabs.
  * A thin space is one-twelfth the width of an em space. A thin space
is often used when a very small space is needed to separate two
characters--for example, between a number and the unit of measure
that follows it, or between characters that appear too close
together--for example, /).
  * A nonbreaking space is the same width as the default space width for
the font.

 Apart from this I found the following spaces in the Windows Character Map:

  *   en Quad U+2000
  *   em Quad U+2001
  *   en Space U+2002
  *   em Space U+2003
  *   Three-Per-Em Space U+2004
  *   Four-Per-EM Space U+2005
  *   Six-Per-Em Space U+2006
  * etc

 First the good news in OpenOffice you can use most of these spaces by
