Are you running the lasted version 4.1.14? https://www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

I know you said you removed it, but make sure you're also installing the latest version.

I too get frustrated sometimes, but then I remind myself it's free and does what I want & need. Also keep in mind that anyone who is helping you is doing so as a volunteer. None of us are employees of OpenOffice.

If the above doesn't help, try to remember exactly what you were doing when it crashed.

Are you in Cal, Writer, and what was the last action you took. It could be a bug.
