I don't understand why you are using Adobe to edit or save an .odt
file. You should be using Open Office Writer. If you want to use
Adobe, you should first use Writer to export the file to .pdf.

Hello,
I'm using mac iOS X. SInce January 2013 there were no issues with open office 4.0

office itself. I have tried to reinstall open office - no luck, same problem continues.

Every time I try to open word doc or open office itself, there is nothing happens, only
message - scan below.

This is a known bug. To fix:

   Open Finder
   Option-click the Go menu
Choose Library from the menu to open the folder in the Finder.
Click on the folder Saved Application State
   Delete the file org.openoffice.script.savedState

For screenshots see:

After fixing, you should upgrade to Apache OpenOffice 4.0, which fixes the bug.

Hi Dennis, I appreciate your help, I did the typical download from the official
open office website through my desktop with no issues. I don’t have Java or any
special virus protection. I assume it is en-us as I didn't change any settings.
Although I am in Australia, I don’t know if that makes a difference.

I was told about resetting the user file but I’m I can't seem to find the file.
It’s not in any of the locations I was told.

Thanks again for all your help.

I just did a fresh download and install on Windows 8 Pro x64. There were no
problems, and AOO 3.4.1 did not create any sort of uncaught exception. It
starts just fine.

Questions for Daniel:

 1. Did you request download at http://openoffice.org ? It is important that
you obtain an authentic download from the primary download location.
(SourceForge will appear and initiate your download.)

 2. Did the download happen with your built-in Internet Explorer on the desktop?

 3. Are you using the standard en-US default?

 4. Did you do the typical or custom install?

 5. Do you know if Java is installed on your machine? (My Windows 8 Pro was an
update of Windows 7, yours is an OEM install of Windows 8 Pro - that might be a
difference.)
Find the Control Panel, go to Programs, and see if there is a Java button
there.
You can get to the control Panel from the Desktop by right-clicking the
lower-left corner - it will be on the pop-up menu.

Microsoft lists AOO 3.4.1 on their Windows 8 compatible list. I've used it
on Windows 8 without problems.

Is your tablet running Windows RT? Microsoft made a special version of
Windows 8 for tablets, targeting ARM processors. OpenOffice won't run

I assume you didn't have any version of OpenOffice.org (Apache OpenOffice or
LibreOffice) on the machine before installing AOO 3.4.1.

It sounds like first-run doesn't get far enough to create a profile.

Does the account you were using the first time you started Apache OpenOffice an
administrator account?

In Windows Explorer (the first application after the browser on your desktop
start bar) look to see if
  C:\Users\your id\App
Data\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\3\user\registrymodifications.xcu
is there.

App Data is a hidden directory, but if you type the above through ... App Data\
in the Explorer address bar, you should get there. Then click through the
other folders. If the path is not there, let me know.

Oh, and did you see the OpenOffice tiles on the Windows 8 Start Screen after
the install completed?
