Your operating system is supposed to take care of that, not Apache
OpenOffice, so ask on a forum for your operating system. Seems to be some
flavour of Windows, so I can't answer it, otherwise I would.

However, when you ran Apache OpenOffice for the first time, I think you
should have been asked if you want Apache OpenOffice to be your default
program for your documents. That could have solved your problem, I guess.
Or maybe not.

What kinds of documents are you trying to open? Maybe Apache OpenOffice
just can't handle them? Suffixes like .ods, .odt, .doc, .xls and so on
should be no problems, but maybe you are trying to open other kinds of
documents?

I'm not a Windows user, so can't reply to the detail of your problem as it is
beyond my knowledge; however, as a short term solution, you should be able to
open any suitable document by starting OpenOffice (Programs button or desktop
shortcut?), then /File /Open and navigate to the folder where the desired
document lives, select it and press the Open button.

It doesn’t. Word Pad does or any of the other two on the list. I simply
CANNOT ADD OPEN OFFICE TO THE LIST IN ORDER TO HAVE IT OPEN MY DOCUMENTS.
I have gone to the default area and that doesn’t make it open them either by
default.
I have worked for about 7 hours reading everything I can find on the computer.
Any forums concerning Open Office DOES NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION. PERIOD.

Can you please help?
Thanks,

Have you tried right-clicking on the file you want to open, then
choosing 'properties' at the bottom of the drop down menu, then
selecting "open with' and navigating to OO Write or appropriate program?

Might be worth a shot if not ... :)
