Although I haven't used it much, it has been invaluable to me.
So thanks again, and thanks to all of you for your continued hard work.

Re: Thank you!

2015-09-07 Thread James Plante
First step would be to create a large pool of questions, answer choices, and
correct answers. One way to do this (but by no means the only way) would be to
create each question in a separate document, filed under a keyed filename like
2-114.txt, 2-115.txt, etc., for section and question number. Then use a random
number generator to select questions by section (2-*) and number (*-115).
Finally, these questions could be pulled into a single document using a UNO
script and/or conditional formatting. You can create a single test document, or
you can individualize it and produce separate tests for each student. That
script would be as much work as coming up with 500 or so questions for each
topic, but in the end it might be worth it.

This sort of system has advantages: The pool of questions can be enormous, so
you can give out the test and the answers to the class if they want them (or
provide a link to the files). Any student who can memorize the answers to all
500 questions in section 1 would probably have a good command of the material
just by rote memory.

Right after the Freedom of Information Act was passed, some enterprising
would-be pilots requested the test questions and answers to the commercial
pilot’s exam. The FAA provided them: All 750 questions on navigation;
airmanship; regulations; etc. So having the test questions provided them with
no shortcuts. It did, however, aid several enterprising instructors in creating
ground schools directed at passing the tests.

Alternatively, create the question pool, develop the selection script, then
sell the question pool to students as a study guide.

Well, OpenOffice consist of a Word Processor, a Spreadsheet, a Database,
a Presentation and Drawing Tool.

As far as I know it is not a Quiz or Test tool.
Maybe if you have a more specific question we're able to give some
guidance but your question is too broad.

Today was a wonderful day. After downloading Open Office a couple of months
ago on my new computer, today I found at least 2 ways of clicking on a
document, downloading a design on my stationery, actually setting up some
templates for the docs I wanted to write (including a recipe), actually
getting the cursor to write a heading __a body of text in the docs I had set
up, then printing saving. The problems I've been having are probably becoming
all too clear: I DON'T KNOW BEANS ABOUT WHAT I'M DOING. Every time I had tried
to look up tutorials I was overcome by licenses, pop-ups proclaiming my lack of
this or that driver or operating program, fear of downloads (I've already had
my share of spies in my system, calling me on the phone telling me that I was
inadequately set up, etc). I just want to thank you for the nice day in which I
actually got something done because magically #1) I was able to use the tools
provided on the page figure out how they worked, and #2) things I had been
looking for on-line for weeks to help me with my projects magically appeared!
Now I just hope that the magic will extend to being able to remember what, if
anything, I did to make these things happen, and if it really was magic that
occurred today, I get it back. Anyway, I appreciate the resources you have
provided, and if it weren't for my disabled status that keeps me continuously
broke and starving, I would give you everything I have (? I don't have much,
but gratitude is abundant!)

Hi, I can recomend you to check out some youtube tutorials about how
to use OpenOffice.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI53WCpAJ3Y
There are also free ebooks on http://www.odfauthors.org/apache-openoffice
And finally on our own documentation site:
http://www.openoffice.org/documentation/

Make sure that you donwload OpenOffice from our website or from Sourceforge.

Once done that, please check out our templates here:
http://templates.openoffice.org/

This will help you with your document design issues.

Also to enhance the safety of your documents, please create a folder
named 'backup' and go to OpenOffice Tools - Options and General -
Path to set up the location where your backup documents will be saved.
Here is a very nifty tutorial about it:

What’s more, is that I’ve also worked with individuals with a variety of
disabilities who also lack the funds for full MS products, and I’ve been able
to assist them by giving them access to Open Office, teaching them the skills
and adding adaptive technology that is often found for FREE online to help them
with clicking/double clicking, etc…

Your service to offer such a compatible, very highly created program that is
able to be used in a competitive format is truly a “gift” of resource and I
might add of compassion for many who would NOT be able to afford the current
traditional programs on the retail market.

Again, I want to commend Apache and all the associates who make this program
available. It has offered me the opportunity to assist start-ups, non-profits,
and individuals who otherwise would not have the opportunity to expand their
skills a real chance to succeed with their own small businesses and to help
non-profits be able to teach skills to those they serve as well among other
tasks.
