[users] Change paragraph returns to soft returns

2009-12-15 Thread Dotan Cohen
How can one change all the paragraph returns to soft returns
(shirt-return) in a selection? I know that I need to use a regular
expression, but I don't know the symbols for paragraph return and soft
return.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andy,

As I discovered shortly after my last post, you and John are both
correct. Having investigated a bit further, I think I have found the
solution to John's issue. This worked for me, your mileage may vary.

* It may not be essential, bit I suggest closing OOo and Quickstarter first.

* Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Templates\ and rename the
file soffice.odt (eg. soffice.xxx).

* Copy the template you have set as your default from C:\Documents and
Settings\\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\template to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Templates\ and rename it soffice.odt

Apologies for the previous misinformation.

Dave

Dave,

FYI, Windows XP does have a 'right click context' menu option "New"
which allows you to "create" a document. These range from Bitmap Image
to Zip files. I do not know where XP gets the defaults but the option
is there, though I have never found any use for the "feature"

The procedure outlined in the documentation wiki DOES work.

It sounds like you are either:

* Going to the file manger and opening an existing document which is
already formatted.

* Not completing step 4: "Choose File > Templates > Organize, browse to
your new template, and click Commands > Set As Default Template"

Try opening Writer from the "Start" menu, or the "Quickstarter" tray
icon. If you have actually set your default template, the new document
will have your formatting.

[users] Setting Defaults - Documented Method does NOT work

2009-12-15 Thread John Wright

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to set the defaults for a new document.

Mostly I'm trying to make the page size "Letter" instead of "A4" but the
same issue exists for changing margins. The procedure documented on:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Writer/FormattingPagesAndDocuments/How_can_I_change_the_default_Page_Style_margins,_so_that_when_I_start_a_new_document_the_margins_will_be_1_inch%3F

Does NOT work. After I do that, then in Windows File Manager I right
click and let it create a new blank document and it still is the old
settings.

How do I set the *master* default settings for new documents?
