A good starting point it the Documentation wiki at

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOo3_User_Guides/Math_Guide
. You can also download the Users Manual at
http://www.odfauthors.org/openoffice.org/english/userguide3/math-3 ,
if you need another language follow the links back to the main page
and follow the links back down.

My first thought for the "random" loss of files is malware; it works that
way. So throw your AV and your best spyware programs at the disk and see
what you get.
If it's not truly random, then I'd suspect cockpit error. Random means
the images will be there today and you've seen them by reopening the files,
and tomorrow or so,me tim,e later they are gone. That's going to be more
likely something you're doing wrong.

Check in Options somewhere for the File Locations and see if it's listed
there.
It's tools; options; click the + for OpenOffice.org and select Paths.
Your backup path is listed there.

I don't guarantee this'll work but here's what I do;

1. Select and copy the stuff I want in Calc.
2. Go to Writer
3.  Edit-->Paste Special->GDI metafile

4. It still looks like just a box with no Calc stuff in it.

5.  File->Page Preview

6. In the Page Preview you can see the Calc stuff.

Here is another answer to your questions from this mailing list:

***
A9 is a cell reference in column/row format. If you prefer, X/Y format.

Powers are created using ^. So, squared is n^2, cubed is n^3, etc.

Fractional numbers are entered using /. 12/24, for example. However,
as fractions are reduced to simplest form, 12/24 would display as 1/2.
This may not be desirable, depending on what age the students are.

CC'd to OP

A9 means Column A, Row 9

A simple search of the Calc Help File for POWER yields:

Example
=POWER(4;3) returns 64, which is 4 to the power of 3.
=4^3 also returns 4 to the power of 3.

A simple search of the Calc Help File for FRACTION yields:

You can enter a fractional number in a cell and use it for calculation:
Enter "0 1/5" in a cell (without the quotation marks) and press the
input key. In the input line above the spreadsheet you will see the
value 0.2, which is used for the calculation.
If you enter "0 1/2" AutoCorrect causes the three characters 1, / and 2
to be replaced by a single character. The same applies to 1/4 and 3/4.
This replacement is defined in Tools - AutoCorrect Options - Options tab.
If you want to see multi-digit fractions such as "1/10", you must change
the cell format to the multi-digit fraction view. Open the context menu
of the cell, and choose Format cells. Select "Fraction" from the
Category field, and then select "-1234 10/81". You can then enter
fractions such as 12/31 or 12/32 - the fractions are, however,
automatically reduced, so that in the last example you would see 3/8.

[users] Transfer data from spreadsheet

2011-01-20 Thread miriam raskin
Friends,

I have been using OOO Writer with enthusiasm for years and don't know why I
can't figure this out but I can't although I have read the relevant
instructions too many times to count.

I keep my work dates and hours on a Calc spreadsheet. When I try to transfer
the data to a Writer doc by dragging or by clipboard/paste, the result is
always just three lines of data. When I try to "edit", I can't resolve the
issue.

How do I get ALL the rows to appear on the word processing document?
