I don't know how the order is determined (maybe alphabetic by path name?), but if you click on Calculator that's what will start. Close enough? Or you can try calcu as the search term and then Enter. (Thanks, by the way -- I'd never tried this!) Instead of all this typing and searching, why not just create a shortcut to the calculator and put it on the quick launch bar or whatever it's called in Vista? That way you only have to make a single click to start the calculator. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to users@openoffice.org

(Thanks, by the way -- I'd never tried this!) Is that a new feature in Windows? It's been in Linux for years, at least with the KDE desktop. The ability to search for programs has been around forever but if the search box from Start has been there before, I never noticed it. (Just a creature of habit -- been navigating the Programs menu, in its various incarnations, since Windows first came out.) In the KDE desktop, after clicking on the menu button, you can type a / and then the first few letters of the app name. The menu choices will narrow down, as you type more letters. I find Microsoft often innovates things that have already been done elsewhere. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Or if the OP really likes the search method for opening the calculator (as opposed to OpenOffice Calc), he only needs to type one additional letter. Do a search for Calcu instead of Calc, and then the calculator will be the only thing found by the search. (I have Vista and verified that this indeed does work.)
