[ovirt-users] [Cannot edit VM. Maximum number of sockets exceeded.]

2019-01-09 Thread Matthias Leopold

Hi,

when a user is managing a "higher number" (couldn't find the exact
number yet, roughly >10) of VMs in VM Portal and wants to edit a VM he
gets a "[Cannot edit VM. Maximum number of sockets exceeded.]" error
message in the browser, which I also see in engine.log. I couldn't find
the reason for this. I'm using squid as a SPICE Proxy at cluster level.
oVirt version is 4.2.7, can anybody help me?

thx
matthias

What exactly are you editing by the VM? The error sounds that CPUs
number is higher than engine configuration value allows

Hello,

Thanks for your help. I implemented your suggestions regarding multipath
config ("no_path_retry queue" only on root wwid) and also the Patch of
https://gerrit.ovirt.org/c/93301/ and now my root on ISCSI is filtered
from GUI and hopefully rock solid stable.

I don’t think we’re changing topology in VM Portal and so you’re stuck with the
restriction in the original template or whatever was set in webadmin. I guess
we’re chagning just the sockets? But then..e.g. if the VM has 4cores/socket you
could only set 4, 8, 16, up to 64, and there’ sno indication nor validation in
the UI, is there?

thanks for answers everybody

this phenomenon seems indeed to be related to VMs with a "higher" count
of vCPUs (topology chosen by oVirt in admin portal when creating VM),
now I saw it with VMs with >40 vCPUs. i always thought "sockets" was
related to a communication protocol in webUI or engine or something...

but the thing is: the user isn't trying to change vCPUs, he only wants
to insert a cd and when trying to update the VM for that he gets that
error. that is annoying

Please use oVirt Engine to manage the network configuration.

I see no reason why the usual way of configuring host networking via
Compute > Hosts > hostname > Network Interfaces > Setup Host Networks
should not work.
ovirtmgmt must not be used by a VM on this host during the change,
and ovirtmgmt should use a static IP address in
Setup Host Networks > Edit management network: ovirtmgmt > IPv4.
It might be a good idea to move the host to maintenance before the change,
and ensure connectivity from the bond to oVirt Engine, because the change will
be rolled back,
if connectivity is lost.

To get the hosted-engine VM on the other cluster I started the VM on host in
that other cluster using "hosted-engine --vm-start."

However HostedEngine still associated with old cluster as shown attached. So I
cannot live migrate the VM. Does anyone know how to resolve? With other VMs
one can shut them down then using the "Edit" option. Though that will not work
for HostedEngine.

[ovirt-users] Nvidia Grid K2 and Ovirt VGPU

2019-01-09 Thread jarheadx
Hello,

sry for my bad english.

I have just bought the NVIDIA Grid K2 and want to passtrough the vGPU to
several VMS. But i am not able to manage this.
I need the driver for Guest and Host, but can not download it. On the official
Site of Nvidia there are only drivers for XenServer and VMWare.

This Nvidia-Site tells that there is support for Ovirt (RHEV) and K2
(https://docs.nvidia.com/grid/4.6/grid-vgpu-release-notes-red-hat-el-kvm/index.html
 )

Can someone please tell me what is going on? Is there any possibility to run
Grid K2 in Ovirt with vGpu (or Host Device Passtrough?)

Furthermore if I do "vdsm-client Host hostdevListByCaps" on the Host , i do not
get any mdev markers like described here:
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/install-guide/appe-Preparing_a_Host_for_vGPU_Installation.html

Many Thanks
Volrath
