Thanks for the reply. The log file states nothing whatsoever.
Theresponse is so insanely fast that it feels as if something fails an
early validation. It does not matter, if I use authentication or not. If
I use http instead of https it logs the following error:

 engine.log

So http goes thru and responds with the expected error (connection via
http is reset immediately). But for https it does not even get this far.
I can access the Provider-URL and Auth-URL via browser and from the
engine's command line and get a valid json response.

It also does not matter, if I use authentication or not. Error end
response rate stays the same. I checked with our hosting provider that
the urls are correct.

I have attached a screenshot of the "Edit Provider"-Window with the
message. It's the only place something is logged. Setting log level to
debug shows nothing either.

[ovirt-users] External Provider https (unknown error)

2018-04-04 Thread Stefan Wendler
Hi,

I am currently trying to attach Glance (OpenStack Image) and Cinder
(OpenStack Volume) as external provider and am facing a problem when
trying to use https in the Provider-URL on an ovirt 3.6 and 4.1 cluster.

The Provider-URL I am using is in the form:
https://:9292 (or port 8776 for Cinder - is either a fqdn
or an IP-Address)

Whenever I press the "Test" button in the "Add Provider" dialog I get
the message "Test Failed (unknown error)." There is no entry in any
logfile whatsoever (at least not in any logs that are associated with
ovirt). I would expect an ssl cert dialog here. I can telnet to the
destination ports from the engine and the nodes so Clance and Cinder are
reachable

I have also read that this might happen, if there is a corrupted
/var/lib/ovirt-engine/external_truststore
But this file is not even existing and when i create it by hand, it is
not touched.

How can I get this to work or even get an error message that gives me a
hint where to look?

Thanks for your support,
Stefan

[ovirt-users] Snapshot deletion gone horribly wrong - Urgent

2014-11-01 Thread Stefan Wendler
Hi,

I'm trying to delete a 1TB snapshot on a store with 1.5TB free space.
should be more than enough and the engine didn't complain.
The snapshot to delete is the only snapshot for this VM.

I started snapshot deletion a couple of hours ago. ovirt then started
filling up the store. I'm sure it happened because of the snapshot
deletion. I have seen this many times when deleting snapshots.
Now I have a couple of KBytes left on the store and the snapshot is
marked as broken. And I cannot delete the snapshot because of not enough
free space. Is there a way to alter the database and then delete the
snapshot files by hand?

I know the files that are the snapshots and could delete them but then
the vm wouldn't start because it is missing the files.

Cheers,
Stefan

Re: [ovirt-users] Snapshot deletion gone horribly wrong - Urgent

2014-11-01 Thread Stefan Wendler
After exporting some unused VMs and deleting other snapshots afterwards
I'm back to 500GB. But the partially deleted 1TB Snapshot is still there
and needs to be cleaned up.

Is there a clean way to cleanup partially deleted/migrated snapshots
without loosing more disk space? What I don't understand is what is
there to migrate, if it is the last snapshot anyway? Shouldn't the
Actual VM-disks be in a consistent state with or without the
snapshots? Or asked another way ... are there documents with an in-depth
description on how snapshots work in oVirt?

Cheers,
Stefan

[ovirt-users] Deleting large snapshots blocks the whole cluster

2014-10-27 Thread Stefan Wendler
Hi,

we have some really large snapshots left from a migration. Since our
store is almost full now we have to delete them now.

Some snapshots are around 1TB already.

The last time we tried to delete a ~500GB snapshot the delete task
blocked the whole diskstore's IO and the whole cluster and all hosts
became unavailable.

Is there a way to delete large snapshots in a humane way that will not
block everything?

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi,

do you mean during snapshot deletion or in general?

In general we do not have any swap usage at all. On none of the 4 hosts.

We had some swap I/O on the host that is SPM most of the time. But not
during that period where we tried to delete the snapshot.

I thought of the bug described in RH bugzilla 1138690 [SCALE] snapshot
 deletion -
heavy swapping on SPM. In case you have no access to it (as it is RHEV
 tagged):

qemu-img reads through pagecache during snapshot deletion. A new flag has
 been
intrduced in August this year that allows to avoid page cache. This flag must
 be
provided by OVirt/RHEV. Target release is 3.6.

Until then the only bugfix is to drop pagecache manually on regular intervals
 on the
hypversior and especially the SPM node.

 Stefan

Oh well. I think this is fixed. I upgraded to 3.4.4 and the message

Davids hint was the solution. I had the ovirt hosts already added to the
cluster and tried to do the hosted-engine-ha setup on them.

After removing the hosts from the cluster and putting the data domain to
maintenance mode I was able to deploy an all other nodes. I now have a
HA'd hosted engine. Which can also be migrated \o/

Maybe that is something that could be stated in the documentation more
 clearly?

Unfortunately now I have a new problem. The agents crash rapidly after
startup. The error is the following:

AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'iteritems'

And the whole output here - The agents have been started and I tried a

I need to change the uid:gid of vdsm:kvm to a value 1024. It has
something to do with the setup of the diskstore I am supposed to use for
this setup. The diskstore is a Synology which has all kinds of strange

I use a Synology (DS211j and now DS214play) at home and have my storage

I think I modified /etc/exports after creating it so that it keeps the

Hey,

thanks for the answer. This definitely helped knowing somebody uses a
Syno box with ovirt.

After fiddling around for some hours I think I have this working now.
But especially the nfs and the permission parts are really really
fragile. One wrong click and everything goes to hell. And as I have
figured out this wont always happen instantaneously. But sometimes only
after a reboot. I personally cannot recommend |ynology as a Diskstore
for ovirt and don't feel too comfortable with this solution. I
personally favour a FreeBSD box with decent zfs support.

this upgrade is from 3.3.4 to 3.4 i think. did you ever upgraded from
3.2 to 3.3? if yes then we need that upgrade log.
AFAIR we started with 3.3 on our production environment. Yes this is from
3.3.4 to 3.4. We had 3.3.0 before and I upgraded to 3.3.4 before going to 3.4

more directions - did you anytime override the osinfo files or added
some custom ones? please paste the content of
 /etc/ovirt-engine/osinfo.conf.d and
 /usr/share/ovirt-engine/conf/osinfo-defaults.properties
/usr/share/ovirt-engine/conf/osinfo-defaults.properties of the centos rpm with
the one from the current sources. But it didn't work before that. I just
replaced them to check if this would fix it. Until then I never heard of this
osinfo file so I never changed/replaced it before.

if non of this has relevant results than its totally safe to run the
 script above mentioned [1]
This is the distribution of os-types in our database:

engine=# select count(*), os from vm_static group by os order by os;
 count | os
---+--
 5 |0
 3 |1
 1 |4
46 |5
 1 | 11
 1 | 12
 1 | 16
 1 | 1501
(8 rows)

So it wouldn't make much sense to execute the
03_03_0660_alter_os_type_unassigned_to_other.sql ?

Regarding the config I send you a link to the tgz with all files. I don't want
to put the link public because it is my private server with not so much
bandwith ;)

Stefan

Re: [Users] VM-List gone after upgrade to 3.4 - Found the error

2014-04-02 Thread Stefan Wendler
I think I found the error. At least it is working again.

When I read the threads Einav provided I recognized that the Problem had been
somewhat related to os type Other
And I have seen some changes regarding FreeBSD. FreeBSD is not the problem
here but that got me thinking that we have a FreeBSD VM with vm os type
Other which was curretly down. Which is the only vm with that type, too.

That also explained why I could view all bookmarks for all running vms but
not the bookmarks for all vms in cluster or all stopped vms.

So I started the FreeBSD vm via ovirt-shell and I was able to view all
stopped vms but not all running vms. Stopped the vm again and it was vice
versa again. So I deleted the vm (but not the disk image) and voila,
everything is working again. Recreated the vm with the now available os type
FreeBSD and it is still working.

So I guess there is a problem with vm os type 6 (Other).

Cheers,
Stefan

[Users] VM-List gone after upgrade to 3.4

2014-04-01 Thread Stefan Wendler
Hi,

today I upgraded from 3.3.4 to 3.4 aus discribed in the release notes. Then
executed engine-setup which finished without error.

Though I can see the running VMs in the according tab on each node (Hosts -
Node - Tab: Virtual Machines) I don't see anything in the Virtual Machines
tab (System- Virtual Machines). It just keeps loading forever. So currently I
cannot view any VM that just has been created or is stopped.

Is this a bug or did I miss something?

Cheers,
Stefan

Yup. It is just showing the three loading dots forever. But there should be
around 60 vms listed there.

Yup. It is just showing the three loading dots forever. But there should
be around 60 vms listed there.

So currently I cannot view any VM that just has been created or is

Is this a bug or did I miss something?

Thanks for pushing it Einav. Would be nice to have a workaround until there is
a real fix or we figured out where I f*cked up ;)

Even a patch file for the javascript would be nice. Because we are really
relying on the gui.

Re: [Users] VM-List gone after upgrade to 3.4

2014-04-01 Thread Stefan Wendler
Read the links and checked the osinfo properties file. even downloaded the
latest one.
But it didn't work. I have one FreeBSD vm which has type Other (6 in database)
but in the ostype props bundled with version 3.4 (and even the on in git) has
backwardCompatibility.Other = 0. The same as unassigned. I changed Other to 6
but it didn't help. The error stays the same. unfortunately.

Cheers,
Stefan

[Users] qemu: too many ide bus during v2v migration

2013-12-03 Thread Stefan Wendler
Hi,

we're currently migrating over from esxi to ovirt. V2v is pretty smooth, up
until I try to migrate a vm with more than 3 SCSI disks.
The disks are exported from esxi as IDE and after the disks have been copied
over, the process fails with qemu: Too many IDE bus
Is there a practical way to fix this?

Thanks for your help,
Stefan

  Hi,

I have a problem installing ovirt nodes the ovirt version is 3.3

Do you guys have any idea? I only found one earlier posting regarding this
problem but that didn't help. I have tar and javatar and the engine-host-
deploy packages on both engine and node (I don't think I need the deploy
  package on the engine)

Actually I think you do. Can you please try installing it? Thanks.

Well, it is working now. I had the ovirt-host-deploy packages installed but I
found some ovirt packages on the engine in a wrong version. After upgrading
and reinstalling the ovirt-host-deploy-* packages this works now.
Thx for the quick hint ;)

Cheers,
Stefan
