White Listing

2007-01-03 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello all,

I am looking for an easy way for my spamassassin to relearn messages
marked as spam that users would like to get. Would it be safe and avoid
bayesian poisoning if I were to setup an email box such as
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and have users forward nonspam emails to this email
address and then learn it as ham?

Thanks

Whitelist and Excessive Spam Please Help

2006-12-20 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello All,

I have a few issues with our filtering and am not sure how to make
things better. The main issue that I have is that I have created a
whitelist.cf file in /etc/mail/spamassassin but with the following

whitelist_from_rcvd [EMAIL PROTECTED] adelphia.net
whitelist_from_rcvd [EMAIL PROTECTED] hotmail.com
whitelist_from_rcvd @dell.com dell.com

they are still getting tagged as spam. here is what the header
information is comeing up with.

X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.7 (2006-10-05) on mx.wifi7.com
X-Spam-Level: **
X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=2.8 required=2.0

 SUBJECT_EXCESS_BASE64,SUBJ_HAS_UNIQ_ID autolearn=no version=3.1.7
X-Spam-Report:

I am not really sure where to go from here to make sure that my boss
gets his dell emails...

The other issue that I have is it seems that I have to have my spam
score down to about 2.0 in order to knock out enough spam for our
clients not to complain is this action abnormal. What could I have
wrong?

THanks Much

Ok when I type spamassassin -D it stops at

[2] dbg: dns: Net::DNS version: 0.48

and then just sits there waiting for something. I read somewhere that
it wanted to be fed a message but I am unclear as to how to do that.

 You do not use sa-update?

I have a cron job set to run sa-update on a nightly basis At least I
think that is what my issue is. I am slowly learning how all of this
works. Should I be doing something else?

 spamassassin -D message_file

Ok I ran that and fixed an error in the whitelist.cf file it seems i
missed putting the server on one of the whitelist_from_rcvd files not
sure if that really was the issue or not. I guess I just have to wait
and see. I have attached the output in a text file for easier reading.
I did notice one problem it said that I had one Ham message. What would
you suggest to start feed ham to Bayes? I thought it was supposed to
feed itself non spam?

I understand that ever implementation of spamassassin is different but
do any of you have a sort of check list to make sure that I am at least
doing something right. I have a qmailtoaster mail server and use
several blacklists. Plus the default spamassassin stuff nothing out of
the ordinary.

I just want to try and get this so I can focus on other things instead
of listening to complaining all the time.

Thanks for all your guidance.

installing URIDNSBL

2006-12-14 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hey all I am trying to get URIDNSBL. But I think that I have some more
problems than just that. When I run spamassassin -D --lint I get the
following out put with 8 errors. This is all Greek to me can someone
shed some light on this for me.

Thanks in advance,

Looks like your whitelist_from_rcvd statements are invalid.

whitelist_from_rcvd requires TWO parameters. Not one. You need a from
address, which you have, and a partial (or complete) server name from a
Received: header, which you are missing.

 ie:
 whitelist_from_rcvd [EMAIL PROTECTED] xan.evi-inc.com
where xan is the outbound mailserver for evi-inc.com.

Usually you can just make it simpler and just do things like:
 whitelist_from_rcvd [EMAIL PROTECTED] evi-inc.com

Which is less specific, but will at least make sure the server
delivering the mail has a hostname in evi-inc.com.

Also, in the future, try spamassassin --lint first, before trying
 spamassassin --lint -D.

Unless you're dealing with a really odd problem, the -D will just add a
lot of clutter that you don't usually need. Usually I use -D to see what
files SA is reading, what features are enabled, etc.. but none of this
is needed for simple syntax problems.

Ok I fixed those issues with the white list and now when I run
spamassassin --lint I get nothing back so I am assuming that it right.
How can I be sure that uridnsbl is working?

Thanks

Ok now I think I am getting somewhere just want to make sure that this
should be Happening. I run spamassassin --lint and it comes back with
no errors then I run spamassassin -D and it just hangs at the last line.
Is this normal or is there some other issue.

Thanks Much

Hey all,

I am trying to run spamassassin updates on a qmail toaster install
centos 4.4 but when I try it throws me this
error.

Script question.

2006-10-31 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello all,

I have a bit of a problem. I am trying to come up with a solution that
I think will help a lot of people who use the qmail toaster mail server.
I have my toaster setup to drop mail tagged as spam into spam
directories in each users mailbox. I am planning on putting a Ham box
in their web mail as well. I would like to come up with a script for
the toaster community that will tell spamassassin to learn from the mail
in each of these directories on a regular basis. I would like the
script to delete mail in the spam and ham dirs on a regular basis.

Any help on this would be greatly apperciated.

Thanks
Kyle Quillen
