Amusing spam

2008-08-09 Thread Loren Wilton
I had a spam leak through today. The only thing in the html part was a link
to some site, with no hint of what was there. The plain text side was more
informative, in a way:

Content-Type: text/plain;
charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

You have 2 options here,
Option 1 - You can put ANY text you want in here.

Option 2 - We will fill it in with the text only portion of the
   html message if you put the macro for you: http://biglnk.com/DZp
   in here.

   NOTE: Some email clients don't disply html data. In that case
what you
   put here will be seen by the recipient. If the email client
does

   display html data then this will NOT be seen by the recipient.
   Based on this you may wish to put a text version of your add
here;

   however, you can also put some macros here to make the message
   more random.

I'm not sure if this on was a legitimate spam or if it was a troll from
someone that didn't like this company...

They apparently got enough complaints to change their web page...

They look like a quite legitimate company, but a little sloppy
(check out the registration for cyberservicesllc.com - which is them
also). They appear to be around 3 years old (at least the slandered
domain) and have another 8+ years left of the registration. Some of
the clearly related domains look closer to 6 years old,

An ugly Joe-Job (correctly termed - someone has targeted them
for this); Best guess would be a spammer who got terminated by them - A
typical disgruntled customer would not be able to access a compromised
machine on a Thai dynamic IP (where your copy of the email came from).

Last night when I googled Rackco so little turned up about them I
figured it might be a small test victim for a new blackmail scheme.
