RoR

2006-08-08 Thread Wim V
I have a different IM client now so the mails don't annoy me anymore, I
wasnt really using this email address. Still id love to get unsubscribed tho
:)

Anyway, I was really suprised how easy it is to setup a web app with RoR.
The best parts are database mapping and not losing time deploying. The
documentation is a bit sparse but that was the same with Tapestry when I
stopped using it about a year ago.

So...

Try Ruby On Rails(RoR), an MVC framework based on the language Ruby! Write
web applications faster than you ever did!

http://www.rubyonrails.org

till next week.

Re: RoR

2006-08-03 Thread Wim V

The problem is plain and simple:
This mailing list keeps pumping messages into my inbox while I want it to
stop. I already tried to unsubscribe multiple times but it doesn't seem to
be working.

I'll keep posting the same email once a week or so till I get either removed
or banned, so dont bother replying.

thx in advance

Sorry if I hurt your feelings but probably if you write a "correct" message
then you will get a correct answer.

Your original message is the most pesky one I have ever seen.

Why not just describe your problem?
Have you contacted the administrators before writing that long message?
Why is that RoR thing? Why do you use this list for it?

It was my mistake to answer that stupid message, but don't have more time
for it.

(And this message isn't more useful and less offtopic than it is :) )

Regards,
Norbi

I'm done using Tapestry, it was pretty good till I found out it was crap.

Set up a message filter in you mailing client to automatically delete
messages came from this list until you contact the appropriate
administrator!
Setting up a filter is very easy in every mailing client (Thunderbird,
Outlook, Outlook Express), even less professional users can do it very
quickly!
RoR may be simple but it also requires some level of creativity and
flexibility which you probably lack.

RE: Why I hate mailing lists

2006-07-07 Thread Wim V
That would be the best idea since the wheel, I'm tired of putting u all on
my junklist coz unsubscribe aint working. One thing I know, I'm never gonna
subscribe to another mailing list ever again.

So I wanted to read up about putting multiple portlets/pages in a single
Tapestry portlet .war and went happily to the online mailing list archives
and what do I find:

The archives are segmented:
+ first by month (oh and only 3 months are online)
+ then by a "page" of "n" postings in a month.
+ there's no search feature.

This is why I deplore mailing lists. They are so 1983. Why don't all
teams follow Hibernate's (and others) lead and choose a simple Forum (phpBB
in the case of Hibernate). It (like google/yahoo groups) is free, keeps
all the old posts, is automatically topically "threaded", is entirely
searchable, if you're addicted to email you can get posts as emails or, if
you prefer, receive daily digests. Why would anyone continue to use an
outdated technology like an email list?

Thanks,

Ezra Epstein
