Hi

The example you mentioned is tapestry's documentation issue that is why I
asked for a jira :). If you find anything deprecated/old/outdated you can
mention it in dev list. If you find anything missing but not sure you can
discuss it in users list. If you find anything missing and you are confident
it should be there, file a jira.

I like them, even the ones saying you are making mistakes (there are many of

It would have been a truly unfair comment, if I put it on your site and
complained on your site that your article is not up2date with some
future technology - T5.3.0.
Your article (on Perf4J integration) is more than fine and easy to
follow and it worked out fine with my application in 5.2.6.

But, this is THE mailing list to discuss tapestry, and since 5.3 is on
it's way, I guess this is the right place to discuss some future migrations.

So you don't have any problem with it, you are just fine.

So, when I upgraded the application to 5.3.0, i get that for example these:
 org.apache.tapestry5.services.ClassTransformation;
 org.apache.tapestry5.services.ComponentClassTransformWorker;
 org.apache.tapestry5.services.ComponentMethodAdvice;
 org.apache.tapestry5.services.ComponentMethodInvocation;
 org.apache.tapestry5.services.TransformMethod;
are all deprecated.

Unfortunately I don't undestand the docs well enough to be able to code
it all in the new way.
Again this is not your problem, or problem with your article. It is my
problem.

That is why I will have to wait until a new version of the article.

So you see this is just an encouragement. :)

Hi Vangel,

This is an unfair comment. I always check any comments and try to respond to
them as soon as possible. It is not possible to remember which of my article
is outdated. All you have to do is add a comment at the bottom of the
article you find outdated/wrong etc and I will do my best to update it as
soon as possible.

You have to write a couple of lines and I will rewrite a whole article, not
a bad bargain.

As for the documentation, the same rule applies but instead of adding a
comment you have to file a jira.

Re: Java Magic has 10000+ hits

2011-07-12 Thread Vangel V. Ajanovski

And even better if articles get updated :)

For example, your article was my first encounter with Perf4J and
implemented it in the same way, unfortunately after move to T5.3.0 I get
several dozens of warnings about things that are deprecated. I tried to
fix them all and after one hour, I understood that I don't know Tapestry
well enough to be able to overcome these changes and perform them myself.

Why? Because the documentation says this is deprecated, insteal use
_this_, but sometimes they even don't have similar signature. So now I
have to wait for a new version of your article :)

And I think this is a general problem with Tapestry, there are some
tutorials for beginners, but the more complex stuff is not well
explained or sometimes it is outdated and not fully working with new
version.

One typical example is the user guide for tapestry-hibernate which ends
like this:
"Here, we're using the Hibernate Session object to find all Address
objects in the database. Any sorting that takes place will be done in
memory. This is fine for now (with only a handful of Address objects in
the database). Later we'll see how to optimize this for very large
result sets."

And we have not seen yet this "later" or advanced chapter.

Hi

It has been a great experience and it is mostly because of this great
community.

When you have such a polite community where you won't be hammered for your
naive and at times irrelevant questions,
Where you have the creator following you only after your 3rd post and pointing
out mistakes, where you get an answer with a code example, where people are not
only telling you how to make things work but also how to do things rightly then
writing a blog is real fun

There is a lot to follow at Java Magic
