then do a Ctrl+Break for the dump

another way is to use a service wrapper that lets you do dumps,

 Option 1:

Start command window and 'cd' to 'C:\...Tomcat\bin' folder where
 'startup.bat' file resides and enter startup.bat tomcat.log

This creates tomcat.log file in the same folder as startup.bat. I have
attached the file which got generated now. The log gets updated with

 In the start-run type C:\Apache\Tomcat\bin\startup.bat tomcat.log

a tomcat thread dump is equal to a java thread dump, the latter is the
correct term for it

so I am not sure what you are asking

Try jar -h at the command line or WinZip will know how to extract it.
You
should have access to jar.exe if you installed a JDK.

In my case Catalina.home = C:\Program Files\Apache\Tomcat5.0. So I would
apply the patch to C:\Program Files\Apache\Tomcat5.0\bin

If you have your environment set up, you can do this from the command
line
by

Copy [source_folder]\mx4j.jar %catalina_home%\bin\jmx.jar.

Tomcat 5.5 on JDK 1.4.2_13

2007-04-03 Thread Jayson Enriquez
Hi all,

Is it possible for Tomcat 5.5 to run on JDK1.4.2_13? I know that JDK1.5
has JRE 5.0. Does JDK1.4.2_13 have a patch install for JRE 5.0?

Thank you

Yes. You need the JDK 1.4 Compatability Package from

Virtual Memory or Mem usage monitoring

2007-03-29 Thread Jayson Enriquez
Hi all, (another memory question)

I am currently running Tomcat 5.5 on Windows server 2003 (2gb). Tomcat
memory resources are monitored in Windows Task Manager. Should I be more
concerned with Mem Usage or VM usage? Is Virtual Memory the actual
memory usage? Will gc release memory after it hits -Xmx 256? What
will/should mem drop down to after release?

Catalina.bat - set CATALINA_OPTS=%CATALINA_OPTS%
-Djava.library.path=C:\Program Files\Documentum\shared -Xms256m
-Xmx256m -verbose:gc

Thank you

If you run Tomcat as a service on Windows, then you have what you need
-- no
reason to have Catalina.bat.

The way I've always done a windows installation is to install from the
.exe file to get my services set up, and then unzip the .zip version
right on top of the installation, so I have the extra support files from

the zip, without having to manually do the service installation.

Subject: Memory continues to increase (Tomcat5.exe)

Hi -

I support an application called EDMS (Electronic Documentum Management
System). To run this we must utilize Tomcat to launch JVM. I restart
Tomcat to release memory usage on a daily basis. (Task Manager) We start
at 260mb and by the end of the day we are at 900+mb. This depends on how
many users are connected and rendering jobs.
Is there a permanent fix to keep tomcat5.exe memory usage stable? The
memory increase can cause our server to error out on 'lock'. Please
assist.

I've read article in http://tomcat.apache.org/faq/memory.html#why but
did not help.

System config:

Tomat5 - 5.0.28 server
Java VM - j2sdk1.4.2
OS - win2k
Mem - 3gb
Processors - 4
Service Pack - SP4
Environment - production
