[vchkpw] may I convert the users and passwords in the file /etc/passwd into the users and passwords of qmail?
hi, every guy. I have a question about user and password. I'm planing to setup a email server using qmail, and now I have had a email server with sendmail running on linux 7.0, my question is, that may I convert the users and passwords of sendmail, which use the file /etc/passwd as its list of users, into the users and passwords of qmail, which will use virtual domain and virtual users of itself, without any operations of adding user and renew password? I don't want to use the file /etc/passwd as the user file of qmail this time. any guy could give me some advices? thank you very much. Best Regards. lawy [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: SV: help! how to use a second virtual domain with vpopmail ?
Joel Aasma£¬ hi, thanks for your instruction. I did use the command vadddomain to add a virtual domain, in my case, it was testdoamin.net. although I was sure of that, I still deleted the virtual domain testdomain.net and used the command vadddomain again to generate it, and got the same result - I couldn't get email from workstation with the users of testdomain.net. what can I do for that ? anyway, I appreciated your kind help. lawy 2001-09-21 09:49:00 hi! I don't think you have used the command vadddomain, cause there is now testdomain in the locals and the other control files. Use vadddomain testdomain.com, it's placed in ~vpopmail/bin. cheers Joel -Ursprungligt meddelande- Fr?n: lawy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Skickat: den 21 september 2001 09:00 Till: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ?mne: help! how to use a second virtual domain with vpopmail ? the surroundings: redhat7.0 + qmail-1.0.3 + vpopmail-4.9.10 + ucspi-tcp-0.88 + daemontools-0.70. the files related look like below: the file /var/qmail/control/me: mail.mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/locals: localhost mail.mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts: localhost mail.mydomain.net mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains: mydomain.net:mydomain.net testdomain.net:testdomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/defaultdomain: mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/user/assign: +mydomain.net:mydomain.net:501:508:/home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain.net:-:: +testdomain.net-:testdomain.net:501:508:/home/vpopmail/domains/testdomain.ne t:-:: . the file /etc/tcp.smtp: 127.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' 129.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' 63.108.64.5:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' :allow nothing for /var/qmail/control/plusdomain; (the user vpopmail and group vchkpw have been created before installing vpopmail) the file /service/qmail-pop3d/run: env - PATH=/var/qmail/bin:/usr/local/bin \ tcpserver -H -R 0 pop-3 \ /var/qmail/bin/qmail-popup mydomain.net \ /home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw /var/qmail/bin/qmail-pop3d Maildir I can correctly send and receive email with the users of mydomain.net, which is my default domain, for instance, [EMAIL PROTECTED] but I can't receive email with my second virtual domain testdomain.net from some workstation, although I can successfully send email to the user with the domain testdomain.net. how to masquerade a domain name with vpopmail ?
I use qmail1.0.3 + vpopmail, and my email server's name is mail.testdomain.com. every time I want to use a user's address, for example [EMAIL PROTECTED], the problem comes out with it, that's, it always looks like the one [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is not the best result I desired. question: how can I throw away these annoying characters mail preceding testdomain.com ? beg your help. hopefully, lawy
maybe vpopmail has a bug ?
the environments: redhat7.0 + qmail-1.0.3 + vpopmail-4.9.10 + ucspi-tcp-0.88 + daemontools-0.70. after I intalled qmail1.0.3, there was no problem for sending and receiving email. then continue installing vpopmail, the whole steps in detail look like below: 1,./configure --enable-romaming-user=y --enable-default-domain=mydomain.com --enable-ucspi-dir=../ucspi-tcp-0.88; 2, make; make install-strip; 3, ./vadddomain mydomain; 4, ./vadduser myuser; 5, replace the entry checkpassword in the file /service/qmail-pop3d/run with vchkpw; the files concerned will look like below: the file /var/qmail/control/me: mail.mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/locals: localhost mail.mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts: localhost mail.mydomain.net mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/virtualdomains: mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/control/defaultdomain: mydomain.net the file /var/qmail/user/assign: +testdomain.net-:testdomain.net:501:508:/home/vpopmail/domains/testdomain.net:-:: . the file /etc/tcp.smtp: 127.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' 129.0.0.:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' 63.108.64.5:allow,RELAYCLIENT='' :allow nothing for /var/qmail/control/plusdomain; (the user vpopmail and group vchkpw have been created before installing vpopmail) then test the pop3d service with vchkpw from the address 129.0.10.15: telnet mail.mydomain.net 110 trying 129.0.10.18... connected to 129.0.10.18. Escape character is '^]'. +ok[EMAIL PROTECTED] user testuser +ok pass 123 -ERR authorization failed Connection closed by foreign host. (the result was same as test launched at mail server itself) if I test the pop3d service with checkpassword from the address 129.0.10.15: telnet mail.mydomain.net 110 trying 129.0.10.18... connected to 129.0.10.18. Escape character is '^]'. +ok[EMAIL PROTECTED] user testuser +ok pass 123 +ok if I send email from somewhere to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the email can be delived to the directory correctly: /home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain.net/testuser/Maildir/new; now, my big problem is pop3d with the vchkpw. I don't know where I made a mistake with the vpopmail, sometimes I even thought maybe vpopmail has a bug ? I'm eager for some expert's answer, thanks a lot. hopefully lawy
