Re: [Veritas-bu] The *NEW* support site
I have to agree, the last time that I tried to search a scenario on the website it took me at least 5 times as long to try and figure out where I needed to go to find what I was looking for. Definitely a turn in the wrong direction. I also don"t think that this is a training issue or something that I could do faster the next time. It is just a poorly laid out website. - Original Message From: Ed Wilts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Greenberg, Katherine A" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 10:18:01 PM Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] The *NEW* support site On 11/13/2006 2:45 PM, Greenberg, Katherine A wrote: > OK, So, is it just me or does the latest re-design of the support site > suck more than any previous BAD incarnation of the support site? We never ran MP2 but we had significant issues with MP3 for which we worked closely with NetBackup Engineering and for which we installed numerous patches. We're currently running an early MP4 beta and you may be able to get this if you call the support folks (but see below). It's vastly superior to MP3 although the version we have still has some bugs that were fixed between our release and the code already checked in for the GA release. The final MP4 is due "real soon now" and we'll be installing it as soon as we can get our hands on it. Given how close the MP4 release is, the support folks may be hesitant to put you on the beta MP4 program and I'd agree with that - you'll likely be better off waiting a week or two and installing MP4 then. Given the size of your environment, you may want to start contacting the support folks now - after all, they'll want to know before you upgrade and likely will open a call in advance just in case you do have issues. .../Ed -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Mike, How long have you waited? If you have that many media servers, you probably have a lot of media. Possibly a large catalog too. When I expire media here, it takes about 30 minutes per tape. (5.1mp4) We have 5 media servers, 2 libraries, about 2000 pieces of media and a 340 GB catalog. You might want to script one bpexpdate command, and time it overnight and see if it finishes - if you haven't already done so. Bryan Bryan Bahnmiller ISD Business Continuity Pier 1 Imports, Inc. [Veritas-bu] Duplications running very slow
Title: Duplications running very slow Hi everyone, I've got a problem with our dupe's running very slowly. We have the following: We are running 5.1 mp5 enterprise Master = pc running windows 2000 Media server = SGI Origin 2000 running IRIX 6.5 Tape library = StorageTech L700 with 4 DLT7000 and 4 SuperDlt I've also recently started to try vaulting images from the library. So, I am trying to dupe from tape to tape. The dupes are taking days. A 7 gigabit image took almost 48 hours to complete. I've checked out all the settings I could think of. Our regular backups are running a little slow (but I know that is because of the way I am attaching to our Netapp box) but not this slow. Any ideas on what to check? I've even monitored cpu usage on the SGI box using top. When the dupe's are running, cpu is 99% idle. When backups are running, the cpu is 30-40% idle. So it looks like it's just sitting there doing nothing. Any ideas? Thanks Jess ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
Re: [Veritas-bu] Bpexpdate not working, freezing
Our problems were so bad with MP2 and MP3 that we had to move to MP4 beta, if your problems warrant it, they'll give you the link. I can understand your concern, I'd recommend shutting down all services and making a backup of /usr/openv on EVERY server, master & media just incase you need to revert back for any reason. IMO 6.0 is very flaky in a lot of ways, the upgrade should work without any problems but you can never to be too sure. MP3 fixes a lot of bugs and MP4 beta fixes about 1000+ more according to the changelog. If 6.0MP2 is working for you, good, just try and get support to fix your issue, otherwise, an upgrade may be needed. Justin. Give what Simon said a try, a ./bpmedialist should show you the media server it was used to mount the tape. It sucks you can't use -deassignbyid in 6.0. I want to see if it is having a direct impact on the backup process. The only thing that I am seeing is relating to a Sybase issue. This is not a Sybase server by far. I have checked through the bpbrm log for the an <16> for this server and do not see an entry for the time frame stated. The peer ( client ) has not been re-booted, so I am not to sure as to why the connection is getting reset by the peer. Any guidance on this issue is greatly appreciated. [Veritas-bu] cinc and dinc on one tape
Netbackup 5.0mp4 Solaris 9 environment with some win2k clients. Is it do people think to have diff incrementals and cumulative incrementals with the same retention on the same media? We have a network based backup which takes ages due to the amount of data on the machine. I have put a suggestion to management it should be directly attached to the L700 via fibre and have SSO option installed, but until that gets past the politics i was thinking of changing the cinc to a dinc on the daily policy i have. I just didnt want to start creating a new volume pool as it would then have to wait for drives to be free as other backups are writing to the daily_cinc pool i have. The retentions would be the same but i was just wondering on peoples thoughts Thanks ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
