Re: [Veritas-bu] Upgrade Strategies
The general rule of thumb is to always do as few changes as possible to minimize the risk of things going seriously wrong. As long as 5.1MP6 is supported on RHEL 2.1 (I assumed you've checked - I haven't), you're taking the right approach by upgrading to 5.1MP6 first. Once you have that upgrade complete, let it stabilize for a while then build up your new system. There's really no catalog migration - you can rsync the /usr/openv tree to the RHEL 4 system - shut down the RHEL 2.1 system, change the RHEL 4 system host name back to what the original system name was, and then re-run the device configuration setup. Don't try and change names on your master during your migration - that will just get you in trouble. .../Ed -- Ed Wilts, RHCE, BCFP mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I GoodSearch for Bundles Of Love http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=821118 > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:veritas-bu- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Sturgis, Grant > Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2007 3:49 PM > To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu > Subject: [Veritas-bu] Upgrade Strategies > > Greetings List, > > We are running 5.0MP7 on RHEL 2.1 and we want to move to 5.1MP6 on RHEL > 4.0 and new hardware. > > What should the order of upgrade be? [Veritas-bu] Upgrade Strategies
Greetings List, We are running 5.0MP7 on RHEL 2.1 and we want to move to 5.1MP6 on RHEL 4.0 and new hardware. What should the order of upgrade be? My first inclination would be to upgrade NBU first to 5.1MP6 and then install new hardware with RHEL 4, install NBU 5.1MP6 and migrate the catalog. Does that make sense? Any suggestions are welcome. Straight through cable vs crossover? That's kind of a stumper.. I asked our san guy about that, and he tells me that some that he gets that are one way where they should be the other (and has had to send some back because the connectors weren't adjustable to swap positions). I'll admit I know enough about FC to get my backup stuff running, but not much more. But I'd imagine (guessing, really) that a direct connect would need the transmit/receive transposed where going through a fc switch wouldn't. >>> "ZIMMER, RANDY K [AG/1000]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 5/29/2007 11:45 AM >>> There is no switch involved the fibre is attached directly from the server to the tape drive. Getting a newer version from the Emulex web site is good idea as you can then also download the version matching lputil utility for firmware upgrades and HBA modification. With the emulex fc cards showing up in lspci and not having drives show up anywhere on the lsscsi, could it be FC switch zoning issues? Re: [Veritas-bu] Trouble getting tape drives recognized on Linux Server running SLES9
Then your SCSI/Fiber card does not see the tape drives. You'd need to run lspci or such to see what card you have, load the driver for it and then make sure the drives are attached correctly. Justin. Re: [Veritas-bu] backup failed with status code 800 NB6.1 in solaris
Could be a few things. 1. Did you use the wizard to configure your drives and storage units? 2. If not start looking at that. You could have configure the drives as DLT and the tapes to go into the drives as DLT2. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of sonu Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2007 2:05 AM To: VERITAS-BU@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: [Veritas-bu] backup failed with status code 800 NB6.1 in solaris hi all, I am sonu, new to this forum.. i am trying to take backup using netbackup6.1 on solaris 9. backup failed with statuscode as 800 and details are below.
