[Veritas-bu] New Library Configuration Parameters
Hello, my department just bought a new Spectra Logic tape library and I'm tasked with installing it. Where do I get the information for the configuration parameters like robot type, drive type, etc? Is the provided by Spectra Logic or Symantec? Thank you. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

In an evaluation, I customized the audit log (that's in the manual) and then used the audit log information in the Security Server's /var/log/meso.log to produce reporting which included the mediaID, backupID, keygroup and key for this purpose. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu

Read the manual or just click your way through the startup screen steps. Patch after installation and before doing any setup. This includes the Mappings patch. ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
Re: [Veritas-bu] New Library Configuration Parameters
Speaking of mapping patch, I noticed that mapping patch that I downloaded last month, was an older version than what was shipped with 6.5.3 patch. So I had to discard the mapping patch and just went with 6.5.3 mappings. In my case i only have LTO3 drives with an older library and all entries were there. --- On Tue, 4/21/09, bob944 bob...@attglobal.net wrote: From: bob944 bob...@attglobal.net Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] New Library Configuration Parameters To: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Date: Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 8:14 AM Hello, my department just bought a new Spectra Logic tape library and I'm tasked with installing it. [Veritas-bu] Celerra/ndmp incrs running as fulls
Can someone give me a quick overview of how the determination is made of what files need to be backed up in an ndmp incremental? It doesn't appear to be archive bit basedis it last modified, is there a change journal on the filer? Short version of the story we have an emc celerra ns42g that has a windows/cifs file system that does fulls everynight no matter what. Obviously confirmed not everything is changing, confirmed the backup levels are being passed correctly from nbu to the celerra and it's not actually running a full. Getting some finger pointing on the cases open with both emc and symantec. Can't tell you specifically what the Celerra does, but since this is NDMP, it must be calculated on the NDMP host itself. There is no communication on a file-by-file basis with the Netbackup master about what to back up. On other NDMP hosts I've worked with (Netapp and Isilon), it's possible to dump out the entire NDMP connection information (all the variables). That would be pretty definitive about what is being sent. EMC support should then be able to tell you why all the files are being sent in response to that backup request. -- Darren ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Total Client Data
Hi Guys, I am a newbie to netbackup. I have been asked to generate a report which contains how much data is stored by each client on netbackup. And also total data stored on netbackup. Re: [Veritas-bu] Total Client Data
bpimagelist -U -client [client_name] -d [mmdd] | awk '{print $5}' | grep ^[0-9] where -d is a date equal or prior to the oldest image for the client. That will give you the size of each backup in kbytes...add those up for the total per client, then add up total per client for total data stored. You can produce a list of all clients with bpclient -All -l | grep Client | awk '{print $3}' and run that through a loop with the above to get what you need. [Veritas-bu] Netbackup Master server hardware - Solaris
good morning, I am Interested in asking the community thier opinions for what hardware platform works best for master only netbackup servers. We currently are running our master in a master media configuration (with two additional media servers) and it is time to refresh the master server hardware. I am going to be performing some tests to benchmark some of the hardware we may use for a replacement master only server. for this i am also interested in some of the tests i can run to give an indication of the server performance. I was thinking of restoing the catalogue to the test hardware and timing some of the more intensive commands such as bpimmedia and bplist. does anybody have other or perhaps even better suggestions ?. I'll post results as i complete tests tests if anybody is interested. At the moment it looks like i'll get to test the Sun M300, T5220 and one of the new Intel Nehalem systems. Thanks Adam M.
