Re: [Veritas-bu] BMR error

2009-09-28 Thread smakovits
Thank you. After investigating further, I think I found the issue being
that the system that was restored was missing the second drive partition.
So as it is outlined in the document, NBU was not able to write to the
partition it was looking for as it did not exist.

I have to test it again, but I am pretty sure this is going to be the
cause of the error.

2009-09-28 Thread WEAVER, Simon (external)
Hi Sandor
I suspect it is. Normally, when testing this, ensure you are using the
ALL LOCAL DRIVE directive in the policy backup where the client resides.
This way, BMR can capture all the partitions needed.

When restoring to alternative hardware, it is VERY likely, that you need
to choose your partitions that need to be restored. this is normally
selected manually.

My understanding of awk syntax has never been very good but here's a
windows script that will give you similar output (I think). Save as a
.vbs and run from the command line. You might need to change the
location of your bppllist.exe command.

set objWshShell = CreateObject(WScript.Shell)
set objExec = objWshShell.Exec(D:\Program

do while not objExec.StdOut.AtEndOfStream
output = Split(objExec.StdOut.ReadLine(),  )
If output(0) = CLASS Then Wscript.Echo vbNewLine Policy:

If output(0) = RES Then Wscript.Echo Policy Storage Unit:

If output(0) = SCHED Then Wscript.Echo Schedule: output(1) End If

It looks like you are trying to restore an Exchange store, is that
correct? What version of Exchange? Are you trying to restore to an RSG

information store directly to files (without using an RSG or SG) with
Exchange 5.5. If this is anything newer then I've got tons of tricks
that have worked over the years, here's a few off the top of my head.

Make sure This mailstore can be overwritten box is checked
Make sure the locations for the database and logs are correct
Revert the Netbackup agent version to whatever you were using previously
When running the restore select Restore individual files option and
specify SG or RSG

I've restored tons of old exchange over the years and the network /
socket errors are always something else. Try the stuff above, and if
you're still stuck send me some more details and I can help.

[Veritas-bu] Scalar i2000 FC question

2009-09-28 Thread tpcshadow

I've been given the task of taking a used fibre channel Scalar i2000 and
putting it into production. I have no documentation except for the users guide
I've downloaded from Quantum's web site.

Does each FC I/O blade operate as an independent FC switch? As a test I have a
host attached to the FC1 port on IO blade 3. The LUN masking wizard only allows
me to map tape drives attached to IO blade 3, but cannot map or see tape drives
on IO blade 4 or 5. Is there a way to make LUN masking work across IO blades,
or are connections limited to the same IO blade?

My understanding of awk syntax has never been very good but here's a windows
script that will give you similar output (I think). Save as a .vbs and run
from the command line. You might need to change the location of your
bppllist.exe command.

set objWshShell = CreateObject(WScript.Shell)
set objExec = objWshShell.Exec(D:\Program
Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\bppllist.exe -allpolicies)
do while not objExec.StdOut.AtEndOfStream
output = Split(objExec.StdOut.ReadLine(),  )
If output(0) = CLASS Then Wscript.Echo vbNewLine Policy: output(1)
End If
If output(0) = RES Then Wscript.Echo Policy Storage Unit: output(1) End

If output(0) = SCHED Then Wscript.Echo Schedule: output(1) End If

Re: [Veritas-bu] Bpplist Policy Script

2009-09-28 Thread Martin, Jonathan
When you run it from the command line run use cscript.exe i.e.
cscript.exe nameofscript.vb - this will send the output to the command
window (by default) versus the pop-ups. Windows Script comes in two
varieties... cscript.exe for command line stuff and wscript.exe for
windows script stuff. If you just run a .vb it defaults to the
application type in windows which is normally wscript.exe. wscript's
standard output is a pop-up window / alert.

Here's a version that outputs to a file:

strOutputFile = c:\temp\NBU-PolicyReporter.txt
set objWshShell = CreateObject(WScript.Shell)
set objExec = objWshShell.Exec(D:\Program
Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\bppllist.exe -allpolicies)
set objFileSystem = CreateObject(Scripting.fileSystemObject)
set objOutputFile = objFileSystem.CreateTextFile(strOutputFile, TRUE)
do while not objExec.StdOut.AtEndOfStream
output = Split(objExec.StdOut.ReadLine(),  )
If output(0) = CLASS Then objOutputFile.WriteLine vbNewLine Policy:
  output(1) End If
If output(0) = RES Then objOutputFile.WriteLine Policy Storage Unit:
  output(1) End If
If output(0) = SCHED Then objOutputFile.WriteLine Schedule:
output(1) End If
If output(0) = SCHEDRES Then objOutputFile.WriteLine Storage Unit:
 output(1) End If
loop
objOutputFile.Close

Normally I write all my Netbackup scripts in Perl so they are (more or
less) compatible with all versions of Netbackup. I don't mind writing a
little windows script to keep my skill set from rusting, but I would
definitely suggest you move to perl or use cygwin (::profuse vomiting::)
so you are more compatible with the Netbackup Community.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Scalar i2000 FC question

2009-09-28 Thread Wheeler, Gideon
Hi,
No cross blade routing is allowed So the masking will only work within
each blade. This doesn't prevent you from presenting 4 tapes drives down
1 FC port.
To present more tape drives to a host you need to zone them in at the
switch side.
What version of the firmware are you using ?

Hope this helps

Does each FC I/O blade operate as an independent FC switch? As a test I
have a host attached to the FC1 port on IO blade 3. The LUN masking
wizard only allows me to map tape drives attached to IO blade 3, but
cannot map or see tape drives on IO blade 4 or 5. Is there a way to
make LUN masking work across IO blades, or are connections limited to
the same IO blade?

it is not that. look at how many Windows VMs and Physical servers vs
Linux/Solaris VMs. In my case, I have 80% Windows and rest of them Linux and
Solaris. Also, Linux and Solaris work quite well when you directly backup
the systems. I am not saying there are no companies where Linux/Unix systems
are majority, then you would not use VMware in there probably. We use
Solaris Containers though along with VMware.
