Re: [Veritas-bu] Disk Staging to tape

2010-11-18 Thread Nic Solomons
Do you specifically need to use an SLP?

What you want to do can be achieved easily with a basic DSSU.
The destage schedule works like a normal policy schedule, so only running on 2
specific days a week is a simple proposition...

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Disk Staging to tape
To: "veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu"

Hello

I am working on a plan to backup clients to disk and later stage these off to
tape.
Can anyone elaborate how this is being done from your end?

Basic Idea:

Backups occur daily to disk and the business would like to stage these to tape
twice a week.

Creating a Life Cycle policy I can run a backup job and a duplication job to
tape but there is no
way to schedule this to tape on certain days. Just the ability to run a
duplication job.

Within a normal policy you can run an inline copy to run concurrently (up to 4
storage units) but this
appears to be backups running at the same time.

How can I combine these methods (or use another method) to run my life cycle
policy backup and then
stage these to tape on a Tuesday and Thursday? Any information would be
appreciated.

Thanks

Jack

Just FYI, if you run dheapmon.exe from the task scheduler you can see
the output of all heaps without having to use the console.

We have had an issue with Netbackup 7.0 where we had to increase the
non-interactive desktop heap size on our 2003 x64 master machines

Found EventID 26 in the system event log, at same time as our problem

A long shot I known, but our vnetd service crashed every other day until
we increased the non-interactive desktop heap

We have used dheapmon8.1 to see the heap usage, you have to be logged on
to the console to see the non-interactive desktop heap

Im running netbackup 7.0.1 on 2003 x64. The server hardware is new, an
HP DL580. Once or twice a week the Netbackup Database Manager service
craps out causing a round of failed backups.

This appears in the windows eventlog.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
The NetBackup Database Manager service terminated with service-specific
error 21 (0x15).

Symantec is stumped. Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas on
how to track down what could be causing it? Thanks

I would look on the filer to see what it reports during the restore.
Can you post the content of /vol/vol0/etc/log/backup with timestamps
that correspond to the restore attempt?

[Veritas-bu] NBconsole takes almost 2 minutes to start

2010-11-18 Thread Jorge Fábregas
Hello everyone,

We're running NBU 7.0.1 and the only thing we needed to start backing up
VMware (through vStorage) was the "Enterprise Client" key corresponding to our
ESXi hosts. Once I registered the key on the master server (which is also our
Media Server) I restarted the Netbackup services. After that, the Netbackup
Administration Console takes almost two minutes to start.

I can remove the license key, restart the services, and the problem goes away.
When the license key is registered, the NBconsole log shows some errors
regarding the "Bare Metal Restore" service (bmrd) which we don't use. When I
remove the key there are no messages related to this service and NBconsole
opens right away.

Is there any way I could tell Netbackup that bmrd is not in use? It seems that
the NBconsole, while loading, tries to contact the service and stays there
until a predefined timeout. Any way to avoid this?

Thanks in advance,
Jorge
