[Veritas-bu] SQL Trans Log backups failing with a 41
Hi, We have Netbackup 7.1.0.2 master servers installed on 2 different sites running their own environment. 2 SQL servers have just been installed and at the moment we are having to run flat file backups but we are trying to use agent backups. The issue we are getting at both sites is during the TL backups, the parent job starts and the child jobs get submitted. The forst 3 connet and say writing but nothing ever appears to be writing to tape and eventually they fail with error 41. The DB backups run perfectly fine in the same manner. Has anyone had this? [Veritas-bu] Server W2k3 not writing to tape
Hi, I have an issue where we have a W2k8 master server on 7.0.1. I am trying to backup a W2k3 client. It has the client software, patched and the VSS hotfix installed. When a backup starts it does the usual and then when it gets to writing to tape it just sots there forever until cancelled without writing anything. Has anyone had this? Please note the Hotfix has been applied... :D Cheers, Chris +-- |This was sent by chris.fa...@uk.fid-intl.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Drive not backing up
Sorry for the delay in getting back... Turns out that this is an EV issue with the times they do their archives. The full backups more or less work but the incremental backups fail. I created a policy to backup the drive during the day and it worked first time. I'm sorry i didn't mention this earlier as i was still trying to get to grips myself with trying to work out what we were backing up. Thanks for the replies. [Veritas-bu] Drive not backing up
Hi, I have a client which has 7 local drives all of which backup except 1. It gets to a point where it allocates a tape drive, estimates how much is required to be backed up and then sits on a status of writing with 0 written. It will sit there for hours and never actually back anything up. Has anyone seen this before. This is on NBU 7.0.1 Windows and the client is an Ent Vault server. There is nothing different about any of the drives other than this particular one is larger than the others and has 390gb of free space. I would very much like to know what to do next as this one has me stumpedyeah i know, don't take much! :D Thanks, Chris +-- |This was sent by chris.fa...@uk.fid-intl.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] NBU not seeing tape in tape drive
Hi, I have an issue where i'm on a dark site trying to get Netbackup 7 ready for a DR test. I have a server with Windows 2003 R2 and a directly SCSi attached LTO4 tape drive. The drive can be seen in Device Manager and the driver is installed. I installed NBU7, started it and straight away NBU picked up the new drive. So, I have a catalog tape from a few weeks ago to play with which was in the drive. In device monitor it could see the recorded media and in Reports and Images on Media it came back with the catalog name etc. Now when I added the tape into MM and then tried to import the tape it errored with no media found in device please verify and then went on to the requesting next resource... Can anybody suggest anything as I've run out of ideas. [Veritas-bu] NBU not seeing tape in tape drive
If I run the wizard it comes up with a very long bprecover error which doesn't really point to anything particular. Don't get me wrong, i have done other DRs and it's always been straight forward but this one is weird. I agree shouldn't have to import the tape but it's the last thing i tried as i was running out of ideas... Going back on Friday to try again with another set of tapes... +-- |This was sent by chris.fa...@uk.fid-intl.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] Cannot restore Exchange 2007 SG
Hi, I'm having issues restoring an SG to an Exchange 2007 server. We have NBU7 for Windows. The error i'm getting is Unable to create object for restore Microsoft Information Store \SG3\Log files_ The restore failed because a connection could not be made to the Microsoft Extesible Storage Engine to load the restore environment. Has anyone had thi issue before? I've never done an Exchange restore before but I think it all looks good unless I'm missing something. The Messaging have created the RSG. Really stuck with this so anything would be great. [Veritas-bu] bpstart / bpend
Hi, Can someone give me an example of what I need to put into the start / end scripts on the client? I just need to know how it should look as I have never set one up before. [Veritas-bu] BPFIS processes running
Thanks for all of the replies. Nic, I checked in fs_cntl and there was nothing in there. However, in fi_cntl there are a lot bpfis.fim.xml documents and fiid files dating back a few months from when it was installed... Also, on VMs I asked one of the guys in the Intel team to check and have asked in the past if there are any redundant snapshots. There never are any... I'm not sure if I mentioned if another issue with this is that when the backups complete the parent job still sits there even though everything completes normally without errors AND the snapshot is deleted +-- |This was sent by chris.fa...@uk.fid-intl.com via Backup Central. |Forward SPAM to ab...@backupcentral.com. +-- ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
[Veritas-bu] BPFIS processes running
Hi, I'm running NBU 7 for Windows. I am getting problems first of all with backup jobs completing but the parent job stays active, this is just on a few VM servers using VCB. Secondly, when i look at the processes using bpps there are loads of bpfis processes sitting there. Ending netbackup doesn't clear them so I just wondered if anyone had come across this before? [Veritas-bu] Error 200
[color=blue]Thanks bob944...at least you agree with mei certainly don't believe everything Symnatec say either. When all said and done as you say the admin guide is exactly what it says...a guide. Over the last 4 years i have run 1000's of backups with mixed schedules without any issues so i guess that if this is a problem then i've either been incredibly lucky or it's not a major issue. Strangely enough i changed the policy to have ALL calandar based scheds and the error still came up last night. So the next thing is as someone mentioned earlier is to blow away the policy and recreate it. [Veritas-bu] Error 200
Hi, For 2 weeks running i have had 1 policy which hasn't run a weekly full backup. It submits the parent job but sits there looking for a stream but eventually fails with a 200 schedule found no backups due to run. I have checked the policy and first thing is that the daily incrementals and the monthly full run ok...so nothing wrong with the policy. Within the schedule itself it is set as calendar and as far as i can see identical to all of the other policies with the weekly full backup. Any ideas anyone? [Veritas-bu] Error 200
Thanks for your replies... All of our policies are setup the same, i.e. the weekly and monthly backups are calendar based and the daily incrementals are frequency. This has never caused a problem before. Also, reading that tech note, all of our policies are set the same...so the weekly backups are set fore the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Friday of the month and the Monthly is set for the last friday. Therefore last friday was the 3rd friday of November so shouldn't have made any difference...and again i come back to the fact that all of the policies are set the same and they all ran fine. [Veritas-bu] Why can't my backups fill up a tape?
I have noticed that my backups appear to use new tapes even though there is still quite a lot of room available on the tapes. I have set the policies to multi-stream and the storage units and schedules to multi-plex. Also the the retention periods are all the same. I must be missing something but i can't see what...It does appear to work throughout a week but for example there are tapes from say last thursday with a lot of space on them and i expected them to be used for last night's backups however it seems that NBU has picked out new tapes to write to. So, am i missing the obvious? [Veritas-bu] Can't get VCB file level backups working
Hi, I am having trouble getting the file level backups working for an ESX server. It's failing with the bpstart_notify failure error (73). However, the image level backups work fine. This was all setup before i came here and i don't really have much experience with backing up VMware. As far as i can see the policies are setup correctly, looks like they have created 2 policies per VM, 1 for Image and 1 for File. Someone told me that he thinks that the backups worked fine before...! Any ideas? If all else fails how hard is it to recover files from a full Image backup?
