Re: [Veritas-bu] NBU Rel 7.0
For what it’s worth, I finished my upgrade to v7 late yesterday, so I’ve just checked in on my overnight backups. So far, so good.. My only issue NBU-related was that my BMR databases wouldn’t upgrade. It wasn’t a huge problem, I had it set up but didn’t use it (I need to rtfm more to understand it better). I just removed it, reran the upgrade steps, and everything went in fine. It took me a little bit to find out what was failing (i.e., read the output on the screen and look through the logs it tells you to look through). I’ll set up BMR again later when I have more time to spend on it. ~ Robin From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of WEAVER, Simon (external) Sent: Wednesday, March 03, 2010 10:25 PM To: Ed Wilts; Jim Caldwell Cc: veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] NBU Rel 7.0 We have recently been given the chance to goto 7, but only recently got 1 environment to 6.5.4 six months ago, and still have another environment in the process of still being moved from 5.1 - 6.5 VMWare components would be the only real interest for me. Getting ready to roll it into Test. They give you similar warnings that they gave for the 5.1 to 6.0 upgrade, (i.e. database consistency), but I have heard that it isn't that brutal and glides right through that portion. I gotta test dedupe really bad, so my test system will be on it in the next couple of weeks. My current level is 6.5.4. We have upgraded our productions servers to 7.0 here. The upgrade was smooth and easy. We did our master server and media server in an afternoon. no harder than doing a 6.5.x patch really. A few things we have noticed: VMWare backups are hugely improved. We have yet to successfully restore a Virtual Machine backup however. It restores the files to the VMware datastore, they all appear to be there, then it claims tar did not find all the files and deletes everything it just restored. There are a lot of moving parts with this and we are still working on resolving this one. Using the new use VM Name selection method in our policies has resulted in vault duplications of images with spaces failing. Otherwise all our normal UNIX and Windows backups seem to be running just fine. I can’t comment on SQL database agents, as we do not use any database agents here. ~ Shawn Plummer Systems Manager CIT SUNY Geneseo The mind can make substance, and people planets of its own with beings brighter than have been, and give a breath to forms which can outlive all flesh. -Lord Byron ___ Veritas-bu maillist - Veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu http://mailman.eng.auburn.edu/mailman/listinfo/veritas-bu
