Re: [Veritas-bu] Backing up MSSQL2008

2008-11-04 Thread WEAVER, Simon (external)

Hi Steve
In that case, just configure a SQL Job to backup the files to disk, and
then do a file level backup to tape for the .bak / .trn file(s).

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Backing up MSSQL2008

Hi all,

I have been tasked with backing up a SQL clustered environment running
MSSQL2008. I realise that this version of SQL is not officially
supported by Symantec till v6.5.3 but unfortunately I am not in a
position to upgrade my current environment (running v5.1MP7) till early
next year.

Therefore has anyone managed to backup and restore a MSSQL2008
environment using the DB agent running NetBackup 5.1?

If so; are there any gotcha's I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

That’s an option and one that I’ve suggested but the customer was hoping for a
‘hot’ backup solution.

I am going to try it and see what happens though I am not hopeful of it being
successful.

Even if this worked, I wouldn't trust it on something as serious as a database.
What happens when it doesn't work and you can't get support from anyone?
Until you can upgrade, would you be able to dump the database to a flat file on
disk with a Maintenance Job or some third party SQL backup app (Litespeed,
etc.) and then have NBU pick up the dump as a normal file?
