Personally I think the 5.1 master hostname change is a walk in the park.

After I had planned and tested the change, we did however have Symantec
PS on site looking over my shoulder in order for it to be supported.
Money spinner if you ask me as all the work was performed by myself.
Easy day out for the PS fella.

Although its unsupported, depending on the version of NBU you are
running, there may still be an alternative.

Im not sure if Symantec Still provide their services to do this, but I
do recall for 3.4 and 4.5 a method of performing such a task.

Google is a friend.. If I find it, will post it on to you.

Planning in the KEY to the implementation of NetBackup, therefore its

Re: [Veritas-bu] Host Name Change on Master Server

2007-11-28 Thread Mike Kiles
I have done it in the past, you need to do a cold
backup of the NBU catalog (5.1 allows only cold
backup) and then use bprecover -dhost to recover the
databases. I did it twice, no issues. I personally
don't see a need to involve consulting in it, only
difference is that they have done it once or twice (or
have access to docs) and you haven't.
Good Luck.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Host Name Change on Master Server

2007-11-28 Thread WEAVER, Simon (external)

Although its unsupported, depending on the version of NBU you are running,
there may still be an alternative.

Im not sure if Symantec Still provide their services to do this, but I do
recall for 3.4 and 4.5 a method of performing such a task.

Google is a friend.. If I find it, will post it on to you.

Planning in the KEY to the implementation of NetBackup, therefore its best
where possible to keep things as they are :-)

This is not supported in any current release of NetBackup. Customers have
asked for many years but it hasn't made it to the of the priority list yet.

Heck, as of 6.0, you can't even change the underlying host name of the
nodes in a cluster if you're running a clustered environment. I'm
getting ready to upgrade my master server cluster to beefier boxes and
wanted to use new hostnames for the cluster nodes so they could be
brought up alongside the existing servers. The node names are in the
EMM database now. The intention was to leave the hostname associated
with netbackup the same, but support said that while that would work
pre-6.0, it is unsupported in 6.0+. Of course, they'd be more than
happy to get consulting involved...for a [hefty] fee, of course.

Good luck...I don't believe this is supported in any of the current
releases of NBU. I highly suggest you contact Symantec on this one, do
not just do it or you are going to run into a boatload of issues.

Thanks
