My apologies if I have misunderstood your question, but it seems like
you are asking a general question about where folders like Application
Support lie...
Mac OS X provides a standard set of locations for preferences and
other supporting information for applications. Basically, any
information that is not static and is needed for the proper operation
of the application is supposed to go into one of two folders called
"Application Support". Information that is specific to a particular
user generally goes in:
/Library/Application Support/ (actually
the full path is : /Users//Library/Application Support/
) -
you can get there from your home icon. Click on your
username/house
icon, click on Library, click on Application Support, eh voila.
Those that apply to all users typically go into
/Library/Application Support/
you can get there by clicking on the hard disk icon in your
sidebar
and burrowing down through Library/Application Support/
There are some variations on that theme. For instance, all of the
iWork applications are found under /Application Suport/iWork/
.
User or machine-specific information that helps an application
function is often in a folder with the application's name in one of
the two Application Support folders. These folders should be treated
carefully if you are unfamiliar with how it works, but in extreme
situations wherein you cannot get the application to function at all,
it makes sense to drag the application's folder from Application
Support to the Desktop and restart the application. Don't just throw
it away, until you know it is corrupted. If the problem resided in the
Preferences, etc. the problem will be fixed but your information will
not be in place. You can then try to restore the files that have your
saved information in them. If the problem was not in the Application
Support files then you should probably re-install and copy your
information back from the Desktop to the Application Support folder.
Many applications cannot function at all without properly set
preferences, etc. Often, when there is a problem wherein an
application refuses to function properly (or at all) the problem lies
in a preferences file or in some other Application Support file. Most
applications automatically regenerate a copy of their Application
Support folder or any key files inside it with the default values when
the folder is absent. Thus, moving the folder (or a corrupted
preferences file) to the Desktop often solves the problem when an
application simply will not function but leaves you with no saved
information (e.g. bookmarks). Because this removes your saved
information, one only resorts to this solution when one either has no
choice or has a backup of bookmarks etc. as these files tend to
contain all the user information you have stored on the computer
related to that application.
