Re: FileMerge not found
Thank you very much kiddailey, you save my life, it works perfectly!! When I type: xcode-select -print-path, it printed out /Developer3.0. so I run sudo xcode-select -switch /Developer and everything is fin now ! By the way, are there any possible side effects to run this command as my 'real' Xcode is under /Developer3.0 ? Re: FileMerge not found
Not exactly a recent thread, but here's a datapoint for you I'm getting the same message about FileMerge, and my opendiff is located here: /Users/username/Documents/Development/Developer/usr/bin/opendiff I can only assume that at some point I installed the Dev tools in my Documents folder. Not sure why I would do that, but I'm sure it made sense in my brain when I did it. Re: FileMerge not found
Hi Jean-Christophe, Can you check in a terminal window if the opendiff command can be found? running: which opendiff should show you where it is installed. Versions looks for opendiff in /usr/bin/opendiff and uses that command to launch FileMerge. If you have it installed in a different location (maybe because you only have the iPhone SDK installed and not the Mac toolchain as well? just guessing), please let me know so we can address that in a future update to Versions. This worked perfectly! Thanks for the help.. On Apr 28, 3:42 pm, Dirk Stoop d...@madebysofa.com wrote: Hi Chris, Short version: run sudo xcode-select -switch /Developer in a Terminal. I bet that if you open up a Terminal window on your Mac and run xcode- select -print-path, it will print out /Developer3.0. If that's indeed what you get, run sudo xcode-select -switch / Developer and everything should be fine, including the functionality of any other parts of the Developer tools or third-party apps that depend on this xcode-path to be set correctly. Re: FileMerge not found?
Aha!! I posted about this back in December and had given up since nobody replied, and eventually ended up resorting to BBEdit. Blah. Your answer didn't address my issue directly, but the tip about how Versions uses opendiff was the clue I needed. I had removed all of the development tools and moved FileMerge into my regular / Applications/Utilities folder. All I needed to do was copy opendiff from the install DVD into my /usr/ bin. Running the xcode-select commands you mention wasn't at all necessary to get it working in my case. FYI - To get opendiff from the DVD without reinstalling everything again: 1. Open the DVD and View Package Contents of the DeveloperTools.pkg file in the packages folder. 2. Copy the Archive.pax.gz file to your hard disk and extract it. 3. Inside the finished Archive folder you'll find a /usr/bin folder with opendiff inside. 4. Copy the opendiff app from there to your /usr/bin on your machine. You may need to use the Go To Folder menu in the Finder's Go menu to get to yours if you're not comfortable using the command-line. 5. You can also copy FileMerge from the /Developer/Applications/ Utilities folder if you need it again. Those exact steps got FileMerge working for me again in Versions without having to install the rest of the developer tools. YMMV of course :) Thanks again! FileMerge not found?
I've got a problem with the way Versions interacts with FileMerge. I'm getting an error when I try to do a diff that says: The FileMerge application could not be located. Please install Xcode Tools from the Apple Developer website. I can launch and run FileMerge manually and it's located in /Developer/Applications/Utilities/ which is the default location. This might be because I used to have FileMerge installed in /Developer3/... but I've since moved my developer tools into the default location. Versions might've tried it once and hasn't worked since? Is there any way to change where Versions points to FileMerge? Is it just the preferences file? --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Versions group.
