Santa Fe River

  Homosassa River

  Weeki Wachee River

probably a few I am leaving out.

I could easily add the “salt Water Rivers” i.e. The entire Indian River
estuary.

I will leave the Georgia and North Carolina rivers to other listers.

Could also add some in California, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana,
Washington, Texas, Louisiana, Alaska, all 6 New England states.

Finally rivers in Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Belize.

Hmmm !! Amazing where 60 years of fishing will take you.

Jimmy- Are you going to publish the list when you are done collecting names
?

RE: [VFB] reels

2009-12-09 Thread Jerry Goldsmith
I agree with Don. (Uh Oh. I must be off my meds) Cabela's or Bass Pro are
very tough to beat for

the money. My personal favorite on-line source for rods and reels is Temple
Fork. Great products, great service

super competitive on pricing.

Since you're not going to depend on the reel to take a beating and keep on
reeling, I'd say take a look at Cabelas.

They should carry a 7wt and you can probably get one for under $150, maybe
less.

I wouldn't take one of these to the salt, and I doubt that's where you're
taking it, since you don't play the fish on the reel.

That's my 2 cents, anyway. I have a Lamson on my 7/8 wt and I've landed 30
pound dorado with it. Drag worked flawlessly.

The wacky Italian broad wants the info to buy me a Christmas present, not
sure whyJ I wouldn't mind a large arbor, but don't know that I need one
since I rarely have a fish on the spool, so the drag is also somewhat moot.
I'd like 150 yds on the spool w/ 7wt line. I fish right handed, retrieve w/
the left & I'd like spare spool capability. I spend more on the rod than on
the reel, & my reels are typically fairly basic & can take a beating. This
is an opportunity for me to upgrade w/out her spending too much. Plus, I
don't need her to know how much stuff actually costs, so if she spends $250
+/- $50, she'll know why I value the equipment w/out knowing how much I
actually spend.

Guys,

Had to share this- made my day.

This endorsement ranks right there with Tony's, as they are both equally
famous. All comments are important to me,

but those coming from famous tiers carry a lot of weight. He's also been
tying forever, so it really boosts my confidence.

For those who don't know Bob, he's an east-coast tier who is world-famous
for his realistic patters, right up there with Blackstone, Whillock, and the
others.

"Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Rope Dubbing is a well done DVD clearly demonstrating a variety of dubbing
material techniques on the one thing that often gives tyers (and not just
beginning tyers) trouble- the natural fur and synthetic material dubbing of
a fly's body. Don, a natural on camera, presents his quick and easy methods
in an unpretentious, best friend demonstration that anyone watching should
be able to pick up on their first try. Especially interesting was the
thicker/thinner corrections he employs to arrive at the desired thickness.
Working a hackle in with the rope dubbing and thereby completing two tasks
at the same time is nothing short of brilliant. If you only buy one fly
tying DVD this year, and are looking for something new that will make your
tying hours easier, this is the one."

@Thomas, you are right, but I do not own one of them, they are located
in Pforzheim as well and probably a Spinnoff of Stenzel? I heard about that.

BTW
Reuven is still getting a set, I aint worried about paying the postage.
Ive had too much stolen by the post office to worry about not getting a set of
flies,
it just a shame that we didnt make a full set.

Or, instead of all of us spending money to send him money to spend money for
lost money...

He could just sell one of the extra flies I sent him and pay for the postage
to Reuven.

Since you're not going to depend on the reel to take a beating and
keep on reeling, I'd say take a look at Cabelas.

They should carry a 7wt and you can probably get one for under $150,
maybe less.

I wouldn't take one of these to the salt, and I doubt that's where
you're taking it, since you don't play the fish on the reel.

That's my 2 cents, anyway. I have a Lamson on my 7/8 wt and I've

Re: [VFB] When you say: Rope Dubbing, you've said it all

2009-12-09 Thread Don Ordes
Gary,

Thanks a million for the note.

What I'd like to get is a timing comparison between your old dubbing method
and a rope-dubbing, on something like a hackled dubbed wooly-worm or one of
your favorites. What I'm interested in is how much faster it is for you
once you've practiced a bit.

I'd also like to see how you do with varying the look with just one dubbing
material, like I showed with the green lamb's wool.

Last night I was practicing making synthetic flash chennlles and dubbing
brushes with the rope-dub. This works great and gives me any look to the
chennille or brush that I want and only takes a few seconds- no wax, no
tools, wire core = weight and tooth-proof. I'll have to put this on DVD#2.

Thanks again Gary.

[VFB] When you say: Rope Dubbing, you've said it all

2009-12-09 Thread glwebb
Don,

This is a shortened list of the "cures" I, and I'm sure many of us
have tried for improving our dubbing.

  1. Less, less, less dubbing.
  2. More wax, less wax, toilet bowl sealing wax, bee's wax, Overton's no
longer available wax, no wax, saliva.
  3. Only spin the dubbing in one direction. Duh!
  4. Split the thread, spin the bobbin.
  5. Buy the latest expensive gizmo.
  6. Buy another beginner's fly tying video. Which will give you their
versions of the above advice.

Your Rope Dubbing method trumps all of these and solves problems they don't
even address.

Thanks again. I can hardly wait for the 2nd volume DVD of "Rope Dubbing
with Don Ordes".
