After the 1st of the year, when things settle down, who is interested in the
Second VFB Rope-Dub Contest/Swap?

Since I did it the 1st time around, I could meister it, appoint a judge or
panel, select the winners, who would win
a 14/0 Fantasy Fly (rear-view mirror hanger), and second place again would be
a mouse.

I thought it was a great DVD, in spite of the viewJ You have my other
comments.

I tried the alpaca two ways; tying in the tips & tying in the middle of the
bunch. Tying in the middle was more difficult, but made for a thicker dub. Not
necessarily a valid adaptation of the technique.

Haven't used other materials yet, 'cause I've been busy & need to redo the
flies for the swap. Looking forward to using other materials.

I like the results much better than doing it the way I was, getting more
consistent results & better segmenting.

Well, just about everyone who ordered DVDs should have them by now (two in
route), and most have had at least a week to view and try out the techniques-
either for the 1st time, improvement , or extension of the technique.

Would like to get some comments:

a.. Your thoughts on the DVD and ease of transition into tying-
b.. Your first tries at rope-dubbing-
  c.. Your re-tries (re-ties) at rope-dubbing and the extensions-
d.. Your overall opinion of the results you're getting: ease of
adaptation, speed, dubbing results, fun, etc.
If you're having a problem, go ahead and bring it out. Don't be shy. I
spent an entire afternoon at a fly-show with a 25 year veteran professional
tier/guide coaching him on getting a perfect rope-dubbed dry fly body. His
problem- doing it so long one way made him want to do it the same way.

Don O, I would be greatly interested. We have just finished up sending out
1938 box's of joy to our kids in Iraq and Afghanistan, so I am gradually
clearing out the stuff in the family room so I can find the tying bench. We
just got the access to the DVD player cleared so I will be able to view the

I will try to redo the flies over the coming week (sorry about causing

Gang, I don't ask for prayers very much, but I felt I needed to on this. My
two best boyhood friends and their sister could really use any and all
prayers that can get. Below is a summary, by Mike about his brother Jim,
himself and sister Ann. Just one of these happenings
would be a Wallop, but all three happening within a week of each other is
almost too much to bear. Jim is 71, Mike 69 and Ann 65.

Thank You, and Merry Christmas to all. JIMMY D.

  Jimmy D.

Just thought youwould want o know, Jim had 4 by-pass operations about 3 weeks
ago. His breathing and movement are still slow.
A week later, I passed out, result of a seizure. I spent 5 days in hos, came
out, went to a heart DOC. spent two days, then 3 days later,
had an areterigram.I had a stint put in one of my arteries, one was too
blocked. the other has an ? in each leg. Hopefully, they can clean
thore in 6 months. Our sister, ann is in the hospital, hopefully with
something minor. All these things happened within a week of each other.
We seem to be ok and are looking forward to Christmas. Hope you and Jody are
over your illenesses

  Merry Christmas,
