Re: [VFB] Your Dumbbell Eyes, You

2011-02-14 Thread Dail Graham
Wes- a thread base is not required but you can tie eyes over a thread base
if desired. I just tie the eyes on with the thread I am using to tie the fly.
I have tied eyes on with 3/0 14/0 ,Gellspun, Kevlar , monofilament, etc.
Just make sure you wrap the (thread wedge) under the eyes wrap under the eyes
overs the hook shank several wraps. The wedge tightens the figure eight
wraps. It is easy and fast. Dail Graham

Do you put down any kind of thread underbase first? What type of tying thread
do you like to use? I usually use monocord, but that's no longer manufactured
as a fly tying thread.

Each year I try to host this swap, and each year I see much improvement
in the Catskill style dry's we get!

I've taken each set, with the location of the tyer, to show off at the
Catskill Fishing Center and Museum and each year some of the premier
tyer's of this genre have a great time looking, and we get some good
comments. But, they also have a great time looking at the different
variations in the participants flies and where that tyer is from.

So let's make it 12 for the Catskill Flies Swap 2011 and when I tie in
the Museum in August at the Jubilee celebration I'll put out each years
swap for display. Deadline June 1, in time for dry fly season in the
Catskills.

require a new book purchase.

Dear VFB and Other Select Flyfishers & Flytiers,

I need about 20-30 VFBers from an international cross-section to read and give
me feed-back about a new fly fishing business venture that I'm planning- if all
continues well.  It's exciting just setting it up and Darren can attest to that
as he's helping me.

It has resulted in my search for a venue to show and sell Fantasy Flies and
videos on a world stage.  You may remember my post about that awhile back.

I need your reply off-line with the email you want me to send a 3-page
description of the business venture, in bullet form.  I would like you to read
this and think about the implications and your potential involvement, and your
ideas about the industry response.

If you want to reply to each point, you may- buy entering your comment behind
the item in a different color.

If you want to comment on the whole package, you may do so at the bottom.

There are a few questions at the bottom I would like you to answer, also.
Depending on how much time you want to invest, it should take a min of 10
minutes to contemplate.

Those participating will get a free charter membership.  I will stop at the 1st
50 if we get that many, but I would like to get at least 30.

I will create an email list and conduct all business off-VFB.

Tight Lines,
DonO--

My left knee, which was banged up in a horse riding accident when I was in my
20's, has been gimpy since the last of its cartilage went AWOL about three
years ago.  I have been postponing the inevitable knee replacement with
cortisone shots every three months.  I even waited an extra month before
getting the last one to increase the odds of the knee being good for Sow Bug.
But this time it didn't work at all; the knee has had it, and is "telling me it
is time to get 'er done" as the doctor said it would someday.

The earliest the doctor can schedule me for surgery
is April, with the preliminary work up being done right smack dab in the
middle of the Sow Bug schedule.  I'm sorry I won't be able to join the fun.

I'll notify the person in charge about my change in plans.

All the best,

Tom

So is that your bride or someone else's? Just kidding. I understand- I've
done it too.

(The father walks the bride up the aisle, and the husband walks her down the
isle. The transfer is made- hubby is stuck with her. You'll know someone's
made a mistake if, after the wedding, the father dances back down the aisle

It's been a while since I hosted a streamer swap, tried one in the
summer and it was slim pickens for tyers. So let's go with a single or
tandem streamer of choice. Max 10 tyers.

Deadline April 15, in time for trolling for big fish after ice out.

[VFB] TEST II

2011-02-14 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
Funny thing. I can send and receive, but when I hit reply to type an
answer,
the damn thing won't let me type, cut, copy, or paste a message. At this
point
I'll be receiving on Webmail and responding on Netscape e-mail. Not a
terribly
huge problem, just aggravating. Had this happen once before and it
ironed itself
out in a couple days. In case you're wondering, the reason I'm not using
netscape
e-mail for both sending and receiving is because on Netscape, I can send
only,

but cannot receive. (That's why I'm using webmail. DUH!!)

JIMMY D

P.S. I've tried Earthlink support and they can't help me. Maybe I need to
get a new ISP.

Re: [VFB] Catskill Dry Fly swap 2011

2011-02-14 Thread Larry Johnson
Peggy: What qualifies a dry as a Catskill dry? and how could someone find pics
of these so that they could decide if they would chooses to participate?

Larry Johnson
Springville, Utah

>>> "Peggy Brenner"  2/13/2011 4:58 PM >>>

Deadline June 1, in time for dry fly season in the
Catskills.

My left knee, which was banged up in a horse riding accident when I was in my
20's, has been gimpy since the last of its cartilage went AWOL about three
years
ago.  I have been postponing the inevitable knee replacement with cortisone
shots every three months.  I even waited an extra month before getting the last
one to increase the odds of the knee being good for Sow Bug.  But this time it
didn't work at all; the knee has had it, and is "telling me it is time to get
'er done" as the doctor said it would someday.

The earliest the doctor can schedule me for surgery is April, with the
preliminary work up being done right smack dab in the middle of the Sow Bug
schedule.  I'm sorry I won't be able to join the fun.

I'll notify the person in charge about my change in plans.

All the best,

Tom,
Done that been there with the shots. Had the Right knee replaced twice and now
it needs replacement again. The left knee has to be replaced too. Planned on
getting this done next month but will hold off till later in the year if I can.
Did not want to miss the Sowbug as the surgery would be during that week.
I will bear with it till after Sowbug but I don't have to travel a long
