Re: [VFB] Question for everybody about blood clots??
Joyce: Thanks a lot. And yeah, as soon as she woke up at 4:30am this morning in severe pain, and couldn’t get a deep breath, we didn’t worry about driving to the ER, but called 911 and got her there in an Ambulance. She is feeling a little better tonight. She has a great doc who even though we may not see her but once a day, keeps in touch with the nurses station all the time, cause she put my wife on new meds all day, as well as ordering new X-Rays, blood tests etc. My wife has been coughing up little specks of blood and that scared me to death, but they are telling us that that is a GOOD sign because it needs to get all that out of her lungs, which is why her doc started ordering breathing treatments 2-3 times a day now. To get that stuff coughed up, and to ward off pneumonia even though it hurts really bad to cough. And the nurse my wife has tonight just got over this SAME thing herself and in fact, JUST came back to work a week or two ago, and she said that YES. it hurts BAD. And she said that too, that it has been a long road to total recovery. I’m just glad she had a doc and nurses who are caring, and take time to explain what’s going on, and just seem to genuinely care in general. Thanks a LOT for all the info. Many ppl don’t want to hear all the ‘gory details” but we are just the opposite. We like to know what we might expect both good and/or bad. Interestingly, one of the methods of torture during the inquisition was to place tourniquets on the limbs and watch the victim suffer. When we know that we will have to use a tourniquet on a limb for foot surgery, we place the patient under general anesthesia because hypoxic pain is very severe. Even under an anesthetic, after about 1/2 hour with the tourniquet, the blood pressure begins to rise and Fentanyl, our most reliable and potent adjunct, doesn't really control the response after 1-2 hours. Gary, prayers for your daughter as well. I am hoping that they will find a tiny stone that slid down into the common duct and that is causing the problem and can be easily removed with the laparoscope. However, if that is not the case, then we all pray and wait with you. Keep us informed please. RE: [VFB] Question for everybody about blood clots??

[VFB] The last few days fishing, very long
My son and two of his friends came up for a few days of Trout fishing. They got here on Friday afternoon and we took the boat out the first time since last year. It was a beautiful day but they had four units running so the river was a bit high. Too high to wade. With four of us in the boat, I could not fly fish, they were spin fishing. I went along and ran the boat. They caught and released several nice size Trout while drifting. Saturday morning it was real chilly but the dam was shut down. We left my dock as soon as the fog lifted and headed up to Tucker Shoals 1/2 mile up river from my house. Low and behold, someone was already in the spot that I wanted to fish. They were chucking corn by the hand full. This really ticked me off. I managed to get by them and above them. This area is real shallow and not the best spot on the shoals. My son and his two friends got out and waded and I tried to get on a good spot to anchor the boat. I am not able to wade yet. I did not want to drift down river and get too far from my son and his friends. I had a Chili Demon tied on so I fished with that fly. I caught a real nice Rainbow that was colored real bright. A beautiful Trout about 16". It was not too long when I heard a yell. One of my son's friends fell in. I managed to get to him and took him back to the house. Headed back up to the shoals and it looked like the river grew a bunch of boats. Most did not know what they were doing. They motored in front of me and cut me off. Coming out of my dock, I almost got run into by another boat. Got back up to the shoals and the other boat was sill there chucking corn. The other one of my sons friends caught a big Brown I was told. My son said it was about 24". I did not see it. Terry ended up falling in trying to land it so I took him back to the house. I got back up to the shoals and got a call on my cell phone from a visiting friend, he was at my house and wanted to fish with me. Back to the dock to pick him up. When I left the dock, something happened to my tiller. I was having a hard time shifting and controlling the throttle. I managed to get back up to Tucker and start fishing again. I let my friend off to wade. The water at the pool was flat and smooth as glass, no breeze at all. Fish were rising all over the place but I could not see any bugs. I must of changed flies a dozen times but no hits. I did notice a very small midge like bug on my hand and wondered if that was what they were taking. It was about a sz 32. My friend waded back over to where I was and tried several flies but did no good. He is a far better fly fisherman than I am. Then all of a sudden the wind came up and I decided I had enough. More and more idiots on the water. My son waded over and was ready to come in too. My friend was staying at the resort 1/2 mile from my house so he asked if I could take him back there so his wife would not have to come to the house to get him, That brought on another problem. The channel is real narrow with thick weeds on one side and gravel bars on the other side. There were boats in the channel fishing and they had no regards for the boats that were trying to use the channel. I got down to the resort ok but coming back up the current was a problem with the throttle not working like it should. I got on a gravel bar and got hung up. My son had to get out of the boat and pull it along. Boats were coming down the channel and would not give us an inch. My son finally pulled me back up to the dock. By now I was really ticked off. I normally would not go out on a holiday weekend. I checked the tiller and found a screw that holds a bracket for the shifting and throttle rod had fallen out. Not sure what size screw it was, we decided to go to the Mercury dealer and get a screw. We went to the three dealers in the area and none of then had a replacement screw. I finally found one at the hardware store and fixed the problem. They wanted to go back out on Sunday but the dam was running five units, Too much water for me to take the boat out. They went to a friends pond but did not stay long. The pond was loaded with moss. Later in the day the dam dropped down to three units so the boys took the boat up to White Hole for a five mile drift. I did not go with them as Dot thought I was pushing it a bit. They only caught six Trout between them in that five miles where last year they caught over 50 trout. They left on Monday morning and I took a long nap. Today Dot had another appointment with the doctor and I took my fly rod along. It was overcast and the wind blowing a gale. I had a sz 12 foam Black ant tied on so I started with that. On the second cast I caught a fair sized Largmouth. A few casts later another one but I was still fighting the slimy moss along the bank. I caught my third Bass when I heard a horn honk. It was my wife ready to leave. She was only there for less than a half hour. I got to fish for about twe

Re: [VFB] Chuck's wife/ Our daughter
Chuck, I'm sorry to hear that your wife is back in the hospital. I can truly emphathize with you, because our youngest daughter Amanda is back in the hospital for the third time because of continuing pain after having her gall bladder removed early last week. Her surgeon told her this morning that she is trying to make up all by herself the list of complications patients may have following this procedure. Waiting for tests results to verify whether she has pancreatitis. They are also doing an ultrasound to check the vessels to the liver and the pancreas. And they are keeping her here for two or three days on IV's and liquids until they are sure she can eat without incurring severe pain. One benefit of working here is she is only four floors up and down a couple of corridors. I will visit her shortly to see what the latest news is. Prayers are desired and always appreciated. [VFB] My wife's update
She's back in the hospital as of 4:30am, cause the pain got worse and worse, and we don't know if she has another clot, or because she has slept in that HARD, UNCOMFORTABLE hospital bed, then came home to our memory foam mattress, but it was hard on her breathing, so she tried sleeping in my recliner, and that thing is comfortable, but not good to sleep on. They did a ton of new tests, and are just awaiting results and keeping her comfortable now till the doc consults with the other docs to develop a plan of action I guess. You know how hospital's are, the patient, and family are the last to know anything. Chuck - No virus found in this message. [VFB] Chuck- Dollar Daze & Flies to send- DonO
Chuck, Reality check... NO ONE says they’re sorry any more. That an admission of guilt and a taking of responsibility. People just don’t do that anymore. It’s always the other guy’s fault. Need any more flies? I culled my inventory again and have a load of them I can send you. Also, tell me what flies you can tie to sell, and I will see if I have the materials and hooks for that pattern to send you. I have lots of common chenille and hackles for bugger-type panfish flies. DonO From: Chuck Alexander Sent: Monday, May 27, 2013 10:42 PM To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [VFB] Prayers needed for my wife This is all true. You just don’t think about all this stuff when it happens. We just want an apology. I can tell you one thing. They can have all the lawyers they want, but my BIG MOUTH, spreading the word will cost them more in lost sales than any lawyer could save them just by saying they were at least sorry it happened. Chuck From: Don Ordes Sent: Monday, May 27, 2013 11:23 PM To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [VFB] Prayers needed for my wife Chuck, You should never leave the premises that you get injured on without calling a cop and filling out a report. This is legal proof, plus getting any eye-witnesses reports to the officer. Dollar can argue against any photos after the fact. Next best thing is event eye-witnesses written accounts (if you can after you left) and then store security camera footage. Their lawyers are paid to look for any loop-hold to get them off the hook. DonO From: Chuck Alexander Sent: Sunday, May 26, 2013 7:57 PM To: vfb-mail@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [VFB] Prayers needed for my wife Don: Sorry to hear about that. I’m with Joyce and think your friend died from a blood clot that went to her heart. We JUST got my wife home. Have to follow up with our family doc Tuesday to get another “INR” (test to determine blood thickness/thinness I guess is what it actually is), and from there, she’ll probably be on Coumiden for at least a few months and they told her “NO GREEN LEAFY VEGGIES... PERIOD”. I had never heard that before, but something about the iron or something in green leafy vegetables can cause new clots I guess. They never could determine what caused it, but they kept asking her if she smoked, which she NEVER has. I’ll tell ya what I think. And I’ll also tell ya what I now think of Dollar General stores. Last week or so, she was in a Dollar General store near here, and it’s a tiny store. So tiny, and crowded inside that they don’t have a buggy rack outside. It’s inside the store. Well, they had it turned a little cockeyed, and somebody was trying to push their buggy back in the rack, and almost ran my wife down with the buggy. She smashed her wrist against that buggy rack, and by the time she got home, it was really swollen, really painful and had a small cut. Soon as it happened, she had blood dripping down her hand, and the store manager didn’t even offer to get her a band-aid, or paper towel or anything. Just basically ignored my wife. So, she got home, emailed the home office because there homepage has no phone number. Waited a week, and NO reply from the email. So she called another local store, and they gave her the corporate number and she called then and explained the situation. They said the local district manager would call her and get things straightened out and talk to her about it. He still has NOT called either. So. She has one more phone call to make, and that will be to a lawyer I’m thinking. I took pics just as soon as she got home, and the pics are digitally time/date stamped, so we have those as “proof”. I know one thing. We’ll have to need an item pretty bad before we shop at another Dollar General I can tell ya that. I think that hit caused a blood clot to break loose, cause it was bruised BAD, which means that it WAS bleeding internally. I don’t want to be “sue happy” like this country is getting to be, but enough is enough and to not even get a phone call to check on somebody who was injured in one of your stores is unacceptable. I have a little piddlin Associates Degree in Business Management, and in just that degree program, we learn that that is NOT the proper way to practice business. This is something that can be dealt with. Cancer, a much tougher problem. Heart attack? All depends. My dad’s boss lived 30 years after a massive attack. My dad lived 2 seconds. We just lost our best friend to a heart attack (just 59) a couple of days ago. Here one minute, gone the next. A couple here we’ve known for over 20 years, church members and camping buddies (fly-fisherman). Coleen, my wife’s best friend, fell down the stairs and shattered her femur a week ago. T
