With the meds he is still in and out of it but he is answering yes and no questions with head movements and they are talking about moving him out of ICU today. Tony, Very sorry to learn of your son’s accident especially after losing his daughter. Don’t despair, my own son had an accident about 8 years ago ending up with a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain plus other injuries. He survived but lost his sense of taste and smell, which gradually came back over the years. Prayers are on the way. Hi Pete: I am glad that the pain has ended. Some 25 years ago, my mother had something similar which turned out to be a polyp in her intestine which did necessitate surgery. After the operation, the nursing staff kept asking her if she had passed wind since the operation, as this apparently is a sign that everything is working ok. My mother recovered from the operation and will celebrate her 99th birthday in 3 weeks. Incredibly, my father is 101! Pete, Glad you got pain-free. Do you drink carbonated drinks? Stop. Your story sounds just like mine 30 years ago. I had frequent stomach pain bouts that would bend me over like I had been stabbed. They were ready to do the barium/enema/X-ray deal, which I dreaded. I quit pop and went no-bean veggie & chicken breast only with vigorous stomach massages. With nothing to give me gas and pushing everything through, it worked almost immediately and I’ve never had the problem again. Didn’t have the procedure, which I heard had serious after-effects. Folks: I had to have two “lesions” removed today that the doc didn’t like the looks of. Please pray that they were benign. Thanks a lot. That’s what I get for welding or 20+ yrs, many times in short sleeves, and living in FL for about 25 yrs and going with no shirt on out fishing too. I use straight shank hooks with foam poppers. I use a 1/64 inch drill bit in my Dremel and drill a hole thru the foam. Put a few layers on thread on the hook and then Zap-a-gap the foam to the hook. Hopefully, this message will work as I have removed my gmail account and then re-installed it. Turns out that there is a problem if one has Google Chrome as the default browser which I did. I was receiving emails from VFB but when I sent to VFB there was no indication that it had been received by VFB. Fingers crossed that I will receive a copy. Truth be told, I'm a sucker for the packaging, and I like the idea of the hook holder that the 25-pack comes in, so that is part of why I'm starting out with a 25 pack haha. Hi Joyce: these stealth hooks are new to me. I see they are cleverly and expensively packaged but where are they made? They claim to use Japanese steel but are they made in Japan? Having started out in this great sport by tying at the age of 14, and not picking up a fly rod until my college years, I did things a little backwards from the traditional progression of things, and so I must confess that I get as much, if not more, pleasure out of the act of tying for the pure fact of tying for tying's sake, compared to the fishing act. Don't get me wrong, I covet my days on the water, and love catch and releasing a good trout just like the next guy. But for me, tying is my daily reprieve from the stresses of life, that can be done at any time of the day. There's three things I always make time for in life: firstly, spending time in the Word, with my God, secondly spending time with my wife and kids, and thirdly, tying at least one fly a day, in that order. The recipe is one handed down through the generations on my maternal side, which is in fact Clan Campbell of Cawdor (Scotland), and I do not know how "authentic" the recipe I have is, that is, how true to the original it is (it has had something like 13 generations of 'whisper down the lane', and I don't doubt that it started as a wet fly and ended up as the dry fly it is today much later down the line), but it is still a neat little pattern to tie up. [VFB] Brenners travel route
Today is liftoff and we are off first to the Shady rest in NJ for a pizza cooked by Bob Popovics, I've heard about this place for years so now we are stopping for dinner. Then we head for Bull Shoals via Nashville, Dallas for the day of May 3, Carlsbad caverns and onward. No midwest this trip it is a big loop. Everyone did a pretty good job. One of the things about swaps is you will always get to busy at work to enjoy tying them. I'm so glad I got to retire when we did, things have changed in the last 2 years so it's no longer enjoyable for those still in the forces. Still have yet to be on the water this season...), but I received a set of wonderful flies for the dry fly swap - except for that one that I got back tied by myself. I'll use that one to get the fish to laugh so hard that I can scoop then up while they're distracted with their laughter. ...Or something like that... All kidding aside, well done, everyone. Oh, and I must confess, I took some liberties with materials on my fly, compared to the original pattern, or at least the pattern as it exists in its current state as *considered* to be "original", but I tried my best to keep the general idea, and impression given by the materials the same (i.e. speckled CDL tail in place of "darkly speckled champagne spade hackle tail", and a single strand of embroidery thread wrapped 6 times used in place of "a tag of six wraps tightly corded, sparse and defuzzed, thread made of pig wool, of color muted brown with olive"). Both are just ‘get-it-started’ posts, so the next ones will be way better. Peggy, thanks. I figure I could go with my big flies even longer, just about until I go blind. lol I am not going to commercially tie. Had to set me up a You Tube Channel with all the bells and whistles, so that took some time. Posted some short videos of photos of me at the Idaho Falls show this spring, and one of some streamers- just to test our posting settings. Looking good. Needed the website addressed 1st for this also, with a modified Rope Dub page. Lots of work. 4. #32 video. Have it in editing with SiL for video trials for macro clarity, and I think we’ve got it down now. Will do one more tie, and then some clips of setting up the materials, then final edit and post. I want to have the website and channel done before I post in case I get any views or traffic. Hope fully it will be as good quality-wise as the Rope Dub #1 DVD video was. Just some fly news for retirement-time this summer. Got many irons in the fire, so it’s very hectic. Getting in sync with my sister-in-law (new web master) is taking a little time, but is coming along well. New tricks + old dogs don’t mix well. Fly-Side News: 1.
