I got the skin from local taxidermist for about half of the current wholesale
value.

Have a tying materials wholesaler that may take 1/2 and the rest will be cut up
and sold in sections. Likely 6 x 6 ($30) and 12 x 12 ($120)

If you are planning on selling any of it in the US you will need to provide the
buyer with a proof of orgian proveing the it is from a skin taken before 1969.
Other wise the buyer could be subject to heavey fines and jail time.

Anchorage, there is a native American bar, carry to go to the ladies
room, all is for sale; next door on the main street in the city is a
Native American arts center, ask for Polar Icicles...they are a strip of
PB with doll eyes and felt attached, with receipt of origins. All legal
for $10.

It maybe is for sale on almost any reservation, along with the tax free
gas and ciggs

2010-01-09 Thread mel hocken
Finding some rare tying material gets a fly tyer all excited. I have read most
of the posts regarding the polar bear. Many are interested in purchasing some
of it. I am not trying to insinuate that Harmon did not win the tying material
lottery but I have not seen any posts asking about the condition of the hair.
There used to be a furrier in Vancouver and I purchased a lot of polar bear
from them over the years and one thing you must look for are split ends on the
hair. Secondly if the hide is quite old the hair may be very brittle unless it
was well cared for . Finding a polar bear hide is not common but the quality of
the hair may not make it suitable for resale.
Just food for thought

I got a piece of PB a few years back when i lived in Washington State and it
was 24x24 inches and it cost me 10.00 i could have gotten the whole skin but i
didn't need all of it and was abit worried about having a large piece if i got
caught with it.There was no way i could explain where i got it or who i got it
from so for everyones protection i passed on the large amount.I had a friend
that got caught up with fish and game because he had about 50 eagle feathers he
had picked up while on the Skagit river and that was fun.
