Tied some lively legz nymphs this afternoon. By "some" I mean 2. But in
all fairness I was chatting with my son the whole while and he tied with
me, also lively legz nymphs, also 2 of them, and we made 2 batches of
rabbit fur dubbing using a coffee grinder method, and he willingly spent
about 2 hours helping to clean up the tying room a bit (it needs another
couple full days worth of cleaning... but we made a dent on it), so I
can't knock it one bit. I found my 6 packs of various shades of whiting
tailing packs / coq de leon, which I couldn't for the life of me locate

Hi Nev, Hi Don, 

I determined the spine very carefully , and doublechecked it with
the spline. In German we use a totally differen word for it,
translated it means 'Jump Point'. 

I used a pac bay blank. Bought it some 6 or 7 years ago, the shop
sold it as 'private label'. I assume it is a tradition blank, but not
in blue as today, it has a dark burgundry color. 

I used black single foot guides. the rod has 3 interesting things: 

1. I wanted to try some strange thread, and came up with a copper
colored round tinsel, very thin, which I bought in a sewing shop. Used
it only for the hook keeper . 

2. I added to the grip a thin ring, which I made from bark which I
harvested from an old cherry tree. I used 5 disks from the bark, glued
it together, sanded it untill it was fine and treated it at the end
with oil. Making this dran thing took me more time than the rest of
the rod. 

3. For the guides... I thought that I should do more than using a
standard chart for it. I mounted the blank in a rack, so that it was
horizontal. Than I used a weight, to bend the rod's tip. Using some
inch rule I measured the curve of the rod. Than using some lines of
java code I determined the best fitting polynom (lagranche polynom)
for the set of points. Added some Java, and calulated the giude's
position with the rule that the angle on the left and right side from
a guide between line and blank should be the same. Anderstand? hope
so.. 

At the end this spacing did look strange, but I used it. For the
first 4 or 5 guides the distance was more or less equal, and than
increase very slightly. I will fish it next week (If weather is ok),
after that I'll report.

I'm here, just today starting a 10 month apprenticeship- Traditional
American Arts, supported by the NH Council for the Arts and National
Endowment for the Arts I will be mastering Full dress salmon flies.

My mentor is Larry Antonuk, of Keene, NH. He has several articles in Fly
Tyer and was the apprenticeship 3 years ago.

One of the parts of the agreement is to share what I learn so it get's
carried on for more generations.

I'm here, just today starting a 10 month apprenticeship- Traditional
American Arts, supported by the NH Council for the Arts and National
Endowment for the Arts I will be mastering Full dress salmon flies.

My mentor is Larry Antonuk, of Keene, NH. He has several articles in Fly
Tyer and was the apprenticeship 3 years ago.

One of the parts of the agreement is to share what I learn so it get's
carried on for more generations.

and was the apprenticeship 3 years ago.

One of the parts of the agreement is to share what I learn so it get's carried 
on for more generations.

and it was cold, my home water is starting to drop a little so maybe I'll

my scar still smarts when I over-work myself, like today.

This will be short but I can't wait much longer to thank all my friends on the 
VFB and the Panfish Flyfishing group. Many well wishers to reply to. I will get 
to all later.
The surgery went well, had some complications after I got home. Made a trip to 
the ER on Saturday.
Am recovering well but will take time. I have restrictions for the next three 
weeks but still plan to tie at the FFF Southern Council Conclave the beginning 
of next month, will just tie half days..
Will keep you all posted.

Howdy, Boys!  I'm still in the hospital, but have managed to get  
online, and better yet am actually able to type and use the computer  
a little bit.  My "overnight" stay is now three weeks, with no  
release date yet scheduled. For those who didn't know, i had my  
prostate removed on the 11th,  but unexpected kidney problems arose,  
and it was nip and tuck for a couple weeks, with complications  
typical of renal failure...  heart problems (got up to 188b/s),  
messed up electrolytes, fluid retention (about 50 pounds of retained  
fluids at the peak), dialysis.  For my part I was totally wiped out  
and just hanging on.

Today things are dramatically improved, I am recovering strength,  
some of my appetite has returned (no more diet restrictions),  blood  
tests are normal and my energy is slowly returning.  I won't be doing  
a lot online yet, but I took this chance to let you know things are  
looking up.  The only reason I am still hear is an abdominal urine  
leak that they are trying to nudge closed without resorting to more  
surgery.
