It's a really simple reason: the site sucks.

That many quicktime embeds just kills people's browsers, unless they
have the latest and greatest gear.

I hear that they are moving to flash instead of quicktime, so that
might be better.

UonTV puts YOU on TV !!! UonTV is a revolutionary new television

[videoblogging] new videoblogging page

2005-07-15 Thread JD Lasica

I've been wrestling with the question of how to showcase the blog
videos I've been creating in recent weeks. Do I really want to create
another blog for that? (I already have 3 blogs -- 4, if you count the
one i have at ourmedia.)

I finally decided, no. I'll blog about my videos as part of my regular
weblog. And I'll create a page to showcase them. So far, they all fall
under the heading of citizen journalism. I'm no Steve G., but then,
who is? :~)

Any thoughts on how to improve this?

[videoblogging] DVLabs

2005-07-15 Thread andrew michael baron

This morning, after determining which loaf of white bread was the
cheapest while purchasing an unknown brand of cream cheese soon after
looking again at this month's server costs ($958) and the strife we
are causing the other shared domains on our account, to the greatest
fortune, today Rocketboom was granted a FREE server account
from. . .Drum Roll please!

http://www.DVLABS.com

A guy who works there just really likes Rocketboom and has some extra
room on their super-computer to host us for free!

Today alone, DVlabs served over 14.3 million videos, mostly for major
online content distributors like CNN and ABC, etc (not sure exactly
which ones - they are re-doing their own website).

They have just finished installing a new system that will allow us to
upload a file and have all of our distributions created
instantaneously (including mov, wmv, flash, 3gp, mp4, h264, torrents,
etc.).

I won't even need to add a graphic logo to our web pages, but I
offered to include a link along with a thank-you page.

So this is the first materialized benefit we have gotten and it seems
like its about as major of a benefit as we could receive - covering a
cost that would otherwise always grow beside us.

Cheers to the world! To celebrate, I think I'll hit the online dating
sites and see if I can find a girl who will take me out on a date!

Andrew

[videoblogging] Introduction, and a request.

2005-07-15 Thread Philip Clark

First time posting to the list. Hello, everybody.

I started videoblogging back in 2002 at swordfight.org/video. After a
while I started to incorporate all the media within my regular blog at
http://swordfight.org .

I'm pretty new to RSS and enclosures, still trying to make sense of it
all. This list has answered a couple of my questions already so thank
you all for that...

It's occurred to me that my participation in any videoblogging
community is bound to be limited by the fact that I'm a hermit in the
Canadian countryside with a very slow Internet connection. There's a
real limit to how many video blogs I can check out in a day. I
downloaded the freevlog RSS tutorial and pretty much had to leave the
iBook on and go walk around in the woods for a few hours. Sometimes I
feel like the last person in the world using dialup, although I suppose
I'm fortunate enough to have even that out here in Gaspereau Forks, NB.

Which brings me to my request. It would be nice to know what's
happening out there. Would anyone be interested in burning some of
their .movs onto a CD and mailing them to me? I'd be willing to cover
your postage costs, or ideally we could work out some kind of trade.

A lot of Internet users would probably cringe at the thought of using
snail-mail, but it works for me. Now that I'm a country boy I'm never
in a hurry.

Are any of the people on this list in the habit of compiling their work
onto DVD? That would be right fancy. I would watch a compilation DVD of
Vlogging's Greatest Hits.

Here's my latest jam if you'd care to check it out, comments are of
course welcome:

Regards,
Philip Clark

Nice Site!

I've done something similar in that my video blogs are within my main
blog as well; but I implimented a TAG system and I tag any video blog
entries with [Video Blog] (and anything else relevent).

Then I can call up my archive page for my blog or for just Video Blogs.

for example:

http://www.davidmeade.com/post/post_archive.php?tag=Blog
 vs
http://www.davidmeade.com/post/post_archive.php?tag=Video_Blog

(if you tack on feed=RSS2.0 to either of those you get the
appropriate RSS feed)

I also call out just my Audio blogs in this way.

In general I like this method (including video blogs in the main blog
- but having a method to filter the view) ... the only problem is I
get conflicted as to which feed to give people, my whole blog or just
my video blogs.

(if you check my site please forgive any formatting errors, I'm in the
middle of a rebuild)
