I use the Canon SD400 and like it.  like most digital cameras used for videos, its best when there is plenty of light, but over all I like it.  here's are a few examples of videos taken with it:

I've been loyal to Canon Elphs for years.  They are ultra-portable and
shoot video with sound.  Let me know if you have any specific
questions about them.

[videoblogging] Digital Camera with Video and Sound capability recommendations?

2006-05-11 Thread awarner20

Hello everyone,

I have just started Vlogging and have used my minidv camcorder and also
an Olympus digital camera with video. I really like using the camera
because it's much more portable, but it isn't able to record sound.
Does anyone here use a digital camera with a microphone? If so, can you
recommend one?

I'm trying to avoid lugging around my minidv camcorder.

Excellent idea, Deirdré! If someone reading this digs golf and is an
excellent vlogger (or to be more precise, video blogger), we want to
hear from you.

http://www.golfpublisher.com/jobs/forms/tvhostess.htm

Aside from an interest in golf and travel and the ability to create
great video, you'll need a sense of humor.

2006-05-11 Thread hseibel2

Andreas,

EzediaQTI, like many such products on the market today, is a great
tool for developers and producers to create a unique interactive media
experience.

veotag, however, is designed to extend a subset of these interactive
features to even the most casual user and to all of the major media
types transparently.

I hope you'll test veotag and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Howard

[videoblogging] Re: the diner on your way elsewhere

2006-05-11 Thread Heath

Well said..."Conversation" like the whole "video podcast casting
call" or the "sexism" one are bound to stir up strong emotions one
way or another and it has been my experience that the written form
can be a hard way to have a "conversation" like that...far to
often we "read" from what mood we are in, and if we are in a good
mood we could see the humor in something someone wrote and not take
it as an "attack"..but..if you are in a bad mood, or sad,
or.you are apt to take the same note and "read" it
differently..

Interesting thread though, interesting thread...

Sian, I'm glad you haven't been scared off by the flamewar - evidently
you've got a sense of humor!

For all those who were upset/offended by the original request, I have
an idea: find someone who's NOT a sexy young woman but IS passionate
about golf, and see if they can make a better golf vlog that gets more
viewers. Then Sian's premise (that it's going to take sex to sell this
vlog) will have been proved wrong, and we can all go home happy.

[videoblogging] the diner on your way elsewhere

2006-05-11 Thread Jay dedman

I like to think of this group as a comfortable diner on our way to
somewhere else.
There's a lot of these places in Manhattan. I always found them to be
a great comfort in the usual craziness. a temporary oasis.

Matt recently pointed out that only a small group do most of the posting here.
Its true. I have no illusion where we fit into the world.

Yesterday, I guy walked in, posted a "help wanted" sign, and left.
one of our regulars then pointed something out rather
dramatically...and it spiraled into a huge to-do. I know i did my part
to spur it on. people thought is was funny/rude/dumb that anyone would
argue against the status quo...or be passionate about it.

Yes, there are larger forces at work all around us.
Yes, there are cultural norms that will continue far into the future.
Yes, there seems to be a small group of us who choose to pass through
each day to ask and answer questions.
Yes, most people stop by this place a couple times, get what they
need, and go on their way.
Reguardless of our influence, or lack of it, on the outside world, I
hope people keep questioning the status quo. This group wouldnt have
existed otherwise.

Are we often radical about it? sure.
Maybe unrealistic? you could say this.
But if all i wanted was the status quo, I'd go hang out on CNET or digg.com.

We know that the values of TV are coming to videoblogging.
Due to their enormous resources and "Lowest common denominator"
thinking, Traditional TV fare will be normal on the web. But I hope we
can continue to make space for people who have a different outlook
...reguardless of how wacky our conversations may get.

as we've reminded ourselves from the beginning, all this is just talk.
Thr proof is the video you make and distribute to the(your) world.
I never doubt for a second the power anyone can have if they make
something that is true.

Re: [videoblogging] Looking for a video podcast hostess

2006-05-11 Thread Deirdre Straughan

I suspect it's going to play out both ways as "citizen video" continues to grow. 1. Yes, the medium will be invaded by the usual pretty people because all humans are "lookist" - part of that is genetic and will never be entirely eradicated, part of it is culture - so there's some hope.
2. However, because we can self-publish, Just Plain Folks can also put themselves in front of the camera and some of them will have a hook that draws us in and we'll watch them even if they aren't pretty. I hope that as a result we'll all subconsciously get used to the idea that you don't have to be gorgeous to be worth watching, and lookism will tone down in the general culture. After all, we already watch lots of famous people who aren't particularly attractive because they are instead funny or talented.
