Thank you all for your replys. What I was looking for was something like
what I have in
our Vinten tripod, a ball based head, that levels the head only. Adjusting
the tripod legs
always leaves me sideways when I pan, I hate that. But I see there aren´t
many options,
altough Manfrotto does seem the best option. For me, an horizon that is not
horizontal on
the frame (does this make sense?) is more disturbing than a squeeky or bouny
pan or tilt
movement. But maybe thats just me ;).
===

It won't be sideways when you pan if the tripod is level (that was the
point of adjusting one of the legs)

A suggestion: see if you can find a circular level. Some tripods have this
built in, but you can buy a general purpose one that is somewhat bigger than
a built-in one .. but will work for setting up the tripod. It's a round
device with two or three concentric rings and, of course, a small bubble of
air inside. It helps to level in two dimensions ... more like 360 degrees.
Unlike a conventional ruler level that is designed to level only in one
dimension.

I'd be lost without my little level on the tripod. I'd never thought about
that is a 360 degree level.

Good news!
I remember how much of a burden was lifted off of my back when he and
the first family were taking the stage in Grant Park.

I was never very fond of him either, but I'll tell you, for me, the
world changed that moment.

Great news on the internet front, but not so much on the financial
front.

His 'money men' are very disappointing to me.

So, Stephen and I went to an open computer and Googled. Yup. But
 the news

I was giddy with joy, for two reasons.

First, it just might mean that the Internet has been saved.

There are many threats to the Net, and there always will be. But
 one is
particularly nasty and urgent. The business model of the
 incumbent carriers
in the US — primarily telephone and cable companies — focuses not
 on simply
providing us with as many bits as we want, but rather on getting
 us to buy
content and services from them. This makes it too tempting to
 them to tilt
the market toward their offerings, and to optimize the system for
 the sort
of content they provide (e.g., high def Hollywood movies), which
 means
de-optimizing it for other types of content (e.g., YouTubes).
 This problem
is exacerbated by the lack of a truly open, truly competitive
 market.

Susan and Kevin come at these issues not as representatives of
 the incumbent
industries but as Internet folks. They are, I believe, deeply
 committed to
the spread of the open Internet. But, they are not ideologues.
 They are
capable of listening, finding what's of value and what matters in
 views with
which they disagree, and moderating their views. They are informed,
intelligent, reasonable, and sweet. You come out of a
 disagreement with them
 feeling better about us all.

Which brings me to the second reason I am so happy about their
 appointment.
Imagine a government that values the qualities Susan and Kevin
 embody.
Imagine a government that doesn't go for the lazy, safe wedge
 issues that
divide us, but actually tries to find ways we can move forward
 together.
Imagine a government that thinks not first about winning the
 argument but
about how we can live together afterwards. Imagine a government
 that assumes
 our better natures.

No need to imagine such a government. We just elected one.

[videoblogging] Canon HV20 footage output settings on iMovie....

I'm seeing interlaced footage when I output from iMovie regardless of
whether or not I click 'deinterlace source footage' in the output settings,
when I set the output settings to 1280 x 720.

Don't see the problem when I output at 640x360

Have been using these settings

Anyone experienced anything similar? Ping me offline?

True, it is overly optimistic, but so was the idea to start The Truth

The only thing that comes in the way is finding a sponsor who would
pay for the expenses associated with this multi-month traveling
project.

You should contact some of the other folks who have taken similar
vlog journeys.
 Like Flux: http://fluxrostrum.blogspot.com/
 Or Ashley: http://sustainableroute.com/
 Or these dudes: http://bit.ly/Ul51
 or Noel: http://luckofseven.com/

All these creators got/get some funding from other people.
I doubt it was more than just gas money.
But why does nayone make a road trip...the journey.

I want to announce my intent to do this on national TV, Good Morning
America comes to mind, or some other TV show of that size.
As far as sponsorship, first thing that popped in is having a Smart
car (smartusa.com) provide the car/gas for traveling in exchange for
promoting it on the road and in the end credits. But then I recalled
Aptera (aptera.com). I think it's a great company which will
  revolutionize personal transportation.
  Here is my question to videoblogging community;
I never written such proposals or contacted any TV station before to
release a press release. What network/show would be ideal to contact
first to announce of my intent to make this happen? What car company,
aside from the ones I mentioned above, should I contact for sposorship
  first?

well...sounds like you have a plan.
Seems overly optimistic and could lead to some disappointment if these
 things dont happen.
But go ahead and write letters for sponsorship.
 Crazier things have happened.

You would be the first videoblogger to announce his quest on Good
 Morning America.

Re: [videoblogging] Trailer Hunger

2008-11-26 Thread Adrian Miles
Ah, Steve McQueen, video artist and Turner Prize winner
(http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/turnerprize/history/mcqueen.htm
), his first feature. By all accounts extraordinary. I don't know
about France or the US, but like McQueen I remember Bobby Sands'
hunger strike. On the news every day, what I remember is the debate
about whether there should be intervention or not
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Sands
).

I also think a future direction of narrative cinema will be this more
poetic cinema. The cinema of attractions (the blockbuster hang on to
your seat SFX thrill fest) is a fin-de-siecle sort of thing as popular
cinema increasingly gets like opera (big, grand, expensive, indulgent
and while significant, perhaps not terribly relevant in the scheme of
things). When anyone can do FX on their own computer (witness the rise
of fan feature films, for example remakes of Star Wars (URL:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/film/film-fans-put-themselves-in-the-picture/2008/02/19/1203190819018.html

/) then what compels and justifies cinema going is not the
spectacle but its elegance (artistry, poetry, style).

well, at least I can hope...
