Re: [videoblogging] HDV tapes

2009-02-20 Thread Adam Quirk
I haven't had any problems with Panasonic mini dv tapes for recording HD,
and haven't noticed any quality difference when using HD tapes vs SD tapes
either. Not worth the ~50% markup in my opinion.
Definitely a good idea to stick to one brand per camera though, as has been
mentioned here before. Something about the coating they use to lubricate the
tape is different among the various brands, and can cause jams if you mix
and match. Search the archive for a better explanation.

I like the farm report. Short clips, not much editing time with logos and
such. Cultural documentation. I remember in the dot com boom "content is
king" was often heard, followed by "but RAM is god"...by the geeks..

To the best of my knowledge, you cant bring objects from Maya into AE. You
need to
render separate passes for RGB, Alpha, ObjectBuffers for each object, then
maybe Depth
passes for each object. Of course you need to export camera data if you want
your 3D
elements to interact with any 2D elements you are creating AE.

If you go to PostForum.com and look for Ko Marayuma in the AE forum, he knows
pretty
much all there is to know about AE. Also there is a very high end pro group
hosted at http://www.media-motion.tv/ Someone in there will be able to help.

Also for what its worth. Cinema4D is the app of choice when working with AE as
it
interoperates very well. You can save an AE project file out of C4D that has
all lights and
camera data intact. It is the choice for almost all broadcast motion graphics
designers
these days. Probably doesnt help you now if you have already invested in Maya,
but worth
knowing if you dont already

Good luck

cheers

[videoblogging] Re: HDV tapes

2009-02-20 Thread Adam Mercado
I've used Panasonic miniDV tapes in the JVCHD100 just fine. HDV was a format
designed
to work within the 25mb/sec limitation of DV25. HDV and DV25 should in theory
work
with any miniDV tape and be interoperable.

As with all media, a good name brand will ensure better results (kinda goes
without
saying I know).

Might be worth looking over at adamwilt.com for any gotchas. He is the DV
cam/tape
master.
