[videoblogging] Winkball.com - new British vlogging service

2010-01-23 Thread Rupert Howe
I just found
http://www.winkball.com

They're sending reporters to events to get talking heads reactions to
things like current affairs issues. Users are also recording their
own To Camera vlog pieces.

They say they have 829 video blogs on their site. Brits are less
outgoing than Americans, and so have been reticent about vlogging -
and only tend to do it through corporate channels, not independently.

[videoblogging] Winkball.com - new British vlogging service

2010-01-23 Thread Tom Dolan
Hello,

I've been following this group for a bit and I'm glad to se it's very
active. This is my 1st post.

I'm building my 1st ever wordpress based blog on my own domain and I
need some advice. I'm almost ready to post episodes/shows. I will post
both video and separate audio files which I'll record. How do I get
the audio files and video files to be downloadable? Visitors can watch
but may want to download to watch or hear later.

BTW, I'm not a coder...be kind, and Thanx.

ps/ which is better: episodes or shows? opinions pleze.

Kind of an interesting idea. Gives a reason for people to interview
others. Makes it less awkward.

If you upload to http://blip.tv, they give you direct links to the
files so you could embed the Flash player, and then link to a
downloadable version as well. I think if you have a Pro account, they
also transcode your video file to MP3.

No rules or template for whats best. It's all about the context i
which you're posting.

Thanx for the response Jay. I've been monitoring this group for awhile
and I'm impressed with the (mostly) positive energy here. I
appreciate your input. I do have a channel up on blip.tv and have only
uploaded a test file to see if I could get it to work. It's been
there for 2 + months while I've been getting ready to get real. I'll
inform the group about the blog-n-channel when I get further along.
Any opinions on tube mogul?

Thanx.

We used to have big flame wars and dramafests every six months or so.
Pretty tame these days. Think people are all just busy creating and
living their life.

Seems like a great option if you want to spam multiple video sites at
once. http://heyspread.com/ is another one. It all depends on what
your goal is. I'd focus on making the best videos you canthen
worry about all the promotion etc.

Steve Garfield just published a book called "Get Seen":
http://www.amazon.com/Get-Seen-Secrets-Building-Business/dp/0470525460
He probably answers a lot of questions for the beginner on, well,
getting seen.

Got Steve's book on my desk as we speak. It's pretty good and I'm
into it about half way.

Thanx for the feedback,

[videoblogging] Re: Winkball.com - new British vlogging service

2010-01-23 Thread Steve Garfield
Hi Tom,
If you go for hte pro version of blip.tv you'll automatically get .m4v and .mp3
files generated from your uploads.

You can then provide a feed for each type of file to your readers.

I just did a presentation at WordCamp Boston today and my slides are over here
it you want to take a look.

http://offonatangent.blogspot.com/2010/01/get-seen-web-video-presentation-from.html

Bottom line is that blip.tv can auto-post to your blog. Makes it so easy.

I made a bunch of test post on my Wordpress.com blog.

Here's one from blip.tv

http://stevegarfield.wordpress.com/page/6/

You can see it provides Quicktime (.mov), MPEG-4 Video (.m4v), MP3 Audio
(.mp3), Flash Video (.flv) downloads.

Hope this helps.

BTW, My book, Get Seen, is now available on Kindle!
http://bit.ly/GetSeen

I think THAT is pretty cool.
