[videoblogging] Re: Which cheapo Mini HD Camcorder would you buy today?

2009-07-01 Thread Jarod Dixon
I figured that clip would show how it does in a poorly lit situation. That
place (obviously) has just a bit of red lighting which my normally awesome
Cannon just hates.

Only thing I dislike about the flips is it's form factor - but that's just my
preference. I find the Xacti's more comfortable.

iPhone at 720 would be fantastic!

Friend has a Flip Ultra HD, and it does a LOT better in low light than my
Cannon HF-100.

As for sound it seems ok, but he mainly puts it in situations where the volume
is a bit too much:

[videoblogging] Re: Sanyo Xacti HD1010 / Canon HF100 4MP MPEG4 High Definition 1080i/1080p Camcorder with 10x

2008-09-22 Thread Jarod Dixon
Rob,

I have the HF-10 which has the internal 16GB flash and love it.

I've been completely lax in doing anything other than recording lots
of different things and plopping them on to the iMac - but I can say
that the videos import to iMovie easily, the video looks great, and
the built in audio sounds great and has an easily adjustable gain for
those special loud moments.

Not all that noticeable - but in some low light instances running as
high quality as I can, I do get some motion lines showing up. I notice
them more while trying to export a frame to an image more than I do
just watching.

Feel free to contact me on or offline for more specific questions, for
the price it's a great little tiny HD camera, and get's my thumbs up.

2008-09-17 Thread Jarod Dixon
On a side note - Discovered a nice trick for data recovery on a drive
that Mac and PC won't read or recognize... Linux.

Plugged a drive that must have had something important corrupted up to
a Suse 10.3 box via USB 2 external enclosure and it mounted fine. I
was able to recover data very easy. Probably won't work every time,
but worked in my case a month ago.

Knowledge is good.

[videoblogging] Re: From Mac *TO* PC -- Should I Switch?

2008-06-09 Thread Jarod Dixon
Nothing like a platform question to shake things up eh? ;)

I'm a multi-platformer - and until recently, have always had the PC as
my primary editing monster using Vegas.

I don't think you will have any problem at all converting from the FCP
family to Vegas - it just takes a little adjustment. I'm going through
the same just trying to find out where stuff is on FCPe.

Major advantage of Windows PC = hardware cheap and easy to upgrade and
replace (me = hardware nerd)

Major advantage of Mac based = stuff just plain works without
downloading x, patching y, and rebooting three times.

Wouldn't go Vista though... eventually 'made' me move the
Franken-puter aside for an iMac on my main desk.

my $.02
